Topics I've Started

End of a season

18 March 2013 - 02:27 PM

Well it's mid March in Ontario and the snow is fast melting. Campsledder and myself decided to head out for one last winter camp on the sleds. We headed a hour and a half from home to where I figured the trails would be ok. We got to the parking spot and the main road was marginal at best. We got the toboggans loaded and headed off into the bush.

Air Box removal 2011 Tundra 550 F

11 March 2013 - 02:23 PM

Ok, I just can't seem to get the air box out of the Tundra. I can't even remember how I got it off last spring to winterize the sled. I have removed all the yellow plastic. Removed the belt cover. Removed the tube to the vent and the Tub to the box. loosend the screws on the collars the air box. Just doesn't seem to be enough room to get the box off the carbs or even manipulate the box to slide it out. Am I missing something?

Conditions are changing fast

06 March 2013 - 08:43 PM

Left Barrie this morning for a bit of running trails and lakes. Headed up the rail trail beside Simcoe to Orillia. The  trail was in good condition. Got out to Couch and the lake was flat with just a few inches of snow. Once we got over to Rama the snow thinned out. When we got on the B trail the snow was really poor.

Some of the trail runs on roads and there is no snow at all.  Didn't quite make it to Coopers Fall before my buddies sled has a problem. I ran the poor trails back and headed down the East sided trails of Simcoe. I got on Simcoe and ran back to pick up the car and trailer.

Simcoe was perfect for running. A few pressure cracks to find your way across but I never have a problem with that.

So If your heading out for a run you probably want to say away from the Ramara trails. The snow is thin at best and a few more mild days there will be impassable sections.

Frustrated with gas milage

06 March 2013 - 08:27 PM

I finally got to put a day a side to go for a good run. I figured I'd see what kind of gas milage I get on my Tundra 550 F. It was a mild day. The trial were groomed the lake was flat. There was no resistance at all. I went 75 km and used 33.559 Liters of gas. That's like 2.3 km/liter. Is the milage that bad with everyone elese? I can't be carrying around tons of gas just to get into those little out of the way spots that I do. The gas stations up here are getting farther and farther apart.

Thought I would link this Facebook page. These guys are doing an Adventure across Alaska on Skidoo's. It has been interesting following it so far and hope for more detail on their journey.
