speedo needle fixed on 40 mph

28 January 2010 - 08:33 AM

I have an 06 MXZX 550 F that when running and standing still ,has the speedo needle fixed at 40 mph. Now it is not stuck because if I shut it off and restart it the gauges do there normal start up thing and at that time the needle is pushed to read 0 along with the tach also at 0 ,then when that all finishes the tach reads normal rpm but the speedo is driven back up to 40 mph. I disconnected the speedo 3 wire sensor ,which is mounted at the left side of the drive axle bearing housing, and tryed it with it disconnected and the sled does the exact thing. goes to 0 when first started and then is driven to 40 mph standing still. My son tells me when he rides it going 20 -30 mph the speedo will read real high, almost 100 ? Has anyone seen this. I'm thinking speedo head or module but I dont have a schematic and it almost looks like the speedo passes the start up test and something else is saying read 40 . Thanks for any help . Tom

08 XP driven clutch support breakage

30 December 2009 - 08:22 AM

I have a 08 GSX with the 600 SDI and have been told by my dealer that the jackshaft has been rubbing on the injector rails and caused the wiring to short out and pop fuse. The cause has been found that the driven clutch support,Aluminum Bracket, has cracked off rear ear mounting hole and the remaining rivets or bolt has been pulled thru the tunnel. It appeared to them that it has been abused? Has anyone else seen this. I do have the new part and it is a revised part # and the part is beefed up abit right at that ear. I have extended warranty and think that it should be covered. Its a GSX for gods sake, I dont hammer on it and it only has 2100 miles . Thanks for any insight
