I have 150 psi on both sides after fresh top-end but pre break-in. This is what started me looking into squish b/c that seemed too high.

ok status update. i have bought a new craftsman compresion gauge and my psi is 145 in both on a 8 hole base gasket with a .50 -.54 squish hope this helps

I'm sure I've been driving Bill Cudney crazy with all my questions about this topic! I've measured my squish now several times using 0.062" and 0.125" thick solder. Used two pieces through the spark plug hole carefully aligned parallel with the wrist pin and touching the cylinder wall on both sides. My results varied depending on the solder thickness used. I measured anywhere between 0.040 and 0.050 squish.

At this point I'm prepared to tear down the top-end again and change out the 0.5mm base gasket that came with his top-end kit and install a 0.7mm gasket which matches the 7 hole stock gasket I had. Bill says he's never had any problems with detonation after installing 1000's of heads on 600 engines directly or while doing a top-end and using his kit's 0.5mm gasket. I'm not sure why my engine's special and my squish is so low...

If I had access to a burret I would check my combustion chamber volume and calculate the compression ratio. It should be ~13:1 with this head.

I just don't want to burn down because of detonation. Bill felt that my SDI's knock sensor would not be adequate protection against this and also that it may not necessarily be audible. So there may be no warning of pending doom for the engine if detonation is taking place. I don't want to risk it.

i also have the same problem! i have a 600ho and picked up a cudney head last year my squish is a .50 with a eight hole base gasket dont know why its so low but my comp is ONLY 125 psi in both? with new SKIDOO pistons and rings. i would like to know if i can drop the squish for more comp? will this be safe on 50/50 racing and premium fuel.

RADTKE what is your compression at?

ok so 80degress is not bad what is?

should my carb slides be synced by a drill bit or by a vacume gauge?

should my pilot screws be excatly the same on both carbs

my plugs look wet when she is ideling is this normal with a 40/1 mix or is it to fat?

its a cudney head for a 600ho 2003.. my squish is .057 with a eight hole. is that too little?

Whered this head come from? Could be a high comp....OR, what's cudney recommend for squish? His combustion chambers are shapped quite a bit different than stock. Might be able to get away with a tighter squish.
