I would really welcome some advice from experienced sledders about purchase advice for a 1981 Ski-doo Citation SS 4500.  

I am thinking about buying my first snowmachine, but I know very little about them.  A friend of mine has this Citation for sale, for a very good-looking price.  

I would like some information on this particular machine, e.g. about its performance history, common servicing requirements, parts availability, strengths and weaknesses, etc.  

The use I intend for the machine is a very utilitarian use, i.e. as an ice fishing sled, and backcountry winter camping sled.  I would be traveling on old logging roads and lakes mostly.  I don't need a high performance machine, but I am looking for a machine that can haul a tow sled behind that may have 200-300 lbs worth of gear and extra gas.

If this year and model of machine has a good reputation, I may buy it.  Otherwise, I may look for a more recent model, like a Tundra Long Track.
