Wrong plug for mpem

08 March 2013 - 02:00 AM

Did something pretty neat yesterday. I was caught at the crossroads of splice the wire or get the right pickups. I found an old plug, kinda broken. I was able to pull it apart and remove the wires with female connector without damaging the plug. I am using a non reverse mpem, but have the reverse set up on the motor i.e. dual pickups and fat magnet flywheel. The plug for the pickups are different for the non reverse mpem. I removed the correct wires and found an old non reverse plug and installed. Sled fired right up without removing the motor to replace pick ups. The reverse plug is still there next to the non reverse plug if I ever get a reverse mpem. Thought I would share that. Thanks for reading.

Finally running

07 March 2013 - 03:43 AM

Just got done with my wife's revx 600 ho trail convert. I bought the sled knowing it was a race chassis, but not realizing it was somebody's headache they threw the towel in on. Small cooler, but it's basically a 600 ho.with the real race package shocks and reinforcements. Chaincase was more water than oil, no secondary, carbs were toast. Mpem was missing it's tether. Rails are effectively gone, bogey's completely missing, Gas tank was mostly water. Story is that it was swamped. I got no problems buying a water skipper, but when the previous owner does not disclose the facts about what was not done to prevent water from hurting the sled I get kinda bummed. Luckily I have a few parts sleds. But after buying the carcass, the pre owner though it would be the opportune time to nickel and dime me for the rest of the sled. Sorry buddy, ebay . Well now she's running and sounds pretty good. This morning she was carcass, now she's a sled. Thanks for reading.

Ungapped plug / gapped to spec plug

26 February 2013 - 08:34 PM

Just gapped to spec and top end forever.  Before was an ungapped br9es midrange king, with sputtery 7000 rpms wot.  Now that it is gapped it blubbery everywhere except hammer down.  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.  The sputtery wot has been a thorn since I bought this sled, now that I have my r's wot it won't cruise.  It has done nothing to the idle, just quarter to three quarter throttle.  01 800 tm non hooded, 500's, 17.5's, dpm, and a rpm prob.  Seems strange to me how the gap played that big of difference.  Thanks for reading.

Ski doo gurus, please read, and offer any explanation.

Just tore apart my tmx carbs for my 700 mod sled (ported, cs twins, makes power at 8700) and checked the pilots... They are 15 mag, 17.5 pto. Everywhere in mod jetting, tmx jetting, and pilot jetting, it shows everyone using 45's to 55's. I've blown this motor up many times, but come to the conclusion that the jetting was not doing it... First three blows were a out of round, or wallowed connecting rod end... Send the pin thru and jiggle, jiggle ( not supposed to jiggle, but swivel smooth and tight). Next two blows, crank was noticeably harder to turn forward, but smooth in reverse ( crank bearing shrapnel I believe, heated up and kaput). Motor has always come to life with authority, spinning to 9g's no sweat. Power everywhere, hot from about 6-7500, but wide open egt's read good... Carb is set up as follows... 4.0 slide, needle clip second from bottom, air jet 2.5 out, idle hand screw 1 out, pilots stated above, mains 460 regularly. Stands up straight from 50mph or any where below that... I know my midrange is going to be hot regardless of what I do (mod sled race ported, race twins) but what is up with the small pilots? I don't believe they are what caused me to blow up. Also has anyone heard of this setup? Also is that why it goes from 1500-9000 rpms right now like efi? Oh yeah it's trygstad improved stock engine.
