Would a secondary clutch from a 2012 MXZ 600 sport fit on a 2008 MXZ Renegade X 600 SDI?

I went riding for 800 miles with a buddy who has a '07 SDI shorty and I have a '08 SDI renegade.  Everytime at the pump my renegade would take at least a gallon more of gas.  Does the added weight of the track cause this much difference in fuel mileage?
