I have a '95 and the switch finally went bad on me because of water freezing inside the keyslot. All my accessories work fine with the key switch removed including the kill switch. Check the big red 12v wire coming off the engine and see if it connects to the accessories before the keywitch. You could just have a loose connection, bad rectifier, or possibly a burnt fuse.

You might also have a dead short somewhere (causing bad things to happen) - usually in the wires going back to the rear taillight running under the gas tank/seat.

Thanks for the pointers. I will check the red wires, look for shorts etc. Fuse is good and I put in a new rectifier.
How about this one. I unplugged the connection coming from the stator with the yellow, yellow/black and brown wires. I started the machine and the meter read 13V AC. I ran leads off the connector and attached them to the headlight. The headlight does not light up. I don't get it.
Another question. What does the booster boost?
