Hello, I have a 96 Formula Z 583. Bought it from a older gent at the start of the season 10000km all original with a blown (mag side) top end. I rebulit the top end on both sides. With kimpex .020 over pistons, had my machine shop match the bore to the piston size. Finished the rebuild broke it in gently. after 200km check compression it was good. Everything was good its been about 750km since the rebuild.
Last ride I was crossing freshly froze ice, and this was an excellent spot to open her right up. I did i held it WOT for about 10 seconds or less then you know what happened. Lost all power, coasted to a stop, i dont think it seized, as i checked the clutchs free movement right away. everything looked good, cranked it over but it wouldnt fire up. Did the finger comp test and the PTO side had no compression, wouldnt even pop my finger off. Eventually with the PTO plug pulled i limped it home. Tore into the next morning and SEE PICS
The cylinder is quite scored, BUT the ring is intact. piston also has alot of wear for 700kms. What could cause a failure like this? Plugs were brown, i do frequent plugs chops, temp was low, oil consumption was normal. I'm completly confused at the moment, dunno what would cause this.

Formula Z carb help please

Hello everyone, new to Ski doo's, owned a few cats, they do not have 9 lives
Got a 1996 Formula Z 583. Just did a fresh top end .02 over. Been out a few times, heres the symptoms
It was very hard to restart when warm, It'd either flood itself out and have to give it WOT while cranking it over, yes electric start <3, and its slowly catch and idle as if nothing strange had happened. It would back fire upon shuting down, very funny at a gas station, shuts off sled, starts filling up BOOM! everyone looks, I look around as if nothing happened lol. also the idle would hang high around 3000rpm, then slowly come down. slight bog on botttom as well.
the carbs are clean, needle in the middle position, i set and sychnonized the idle, idles fine, air screw, on opposite side as idle screw, it was at 2 turns out, I DONT KNOW what they should be at, i've searched this forum top to bottom, and have found many conflicting answers, i found somewhere that 3\4s out, others 1.5-2? i put it to 3/4s out and everything seems ok, idles starts no back fires, but what is the actual set point for the 96 FORMULA Z 583? what should it be at? anything bad of being only 3\4 out?
Thanks in advance everyone, fingers crossed for snow!
