just got a price from a local shop for a top end rebuild on my 99 touring sle (500 fan) for $750. You guys think it is worth rebuilding? He has not diagnosed the reason for the failure yet though, and cannot guarantee that he will be able to figure it out. That is the part that makes me worry. what do you think?
what other options are there? any advise would be appreciated.

Looking for some advice.  Last ride from last season, my sled died.  It seemed to be seized, as I could not pull it over.  Towed it back to the trailer, drove it home 2.5 hours, and when I got it home, it started right up.  Oil light is on though.  The oil reservoir is 3/4 full, so it is not out.  What makes the oil light come on?  Where should I start looking?  This is a 500, fan cooled motor.  Compression was equal in both cylinders, but seemed low.  It was measured cold at 75psi.  It was my fist time using the compression tool, but it seems pretty straightforward.

Any advice would be appreciated.
