In Topic: Clutch panel protector??

This what I ended up doing!!  First I install the 2012 clutch cover with the up dated bracing that Ski Doo add to it.  I waited all winter for the cover and guess what the first ride and it got broken when the clutch hit it. I'm planning on laying some carbon fiber over that this summer and making it stiffer.  I added a JC vent to the panel which I think stiffened the panel some. I also spaced the vent 1/8 inch out from the clutch. Then I'd added a round piece of sheet metal to the vent and JB welded it so I didn't put a hole in the vent on the first ride. Yes it block about 1/3 of my vent but I've been on two rides now and it's seems to have worked well The sheet metal is attached to the vent in the spot the clutch was hitting the panel.Attached File  IMG_2778.JPG   61.29K   0 downloads

JC vents get my vote. I own vents from four different companies and I like these JC vents.

In Topic: Question on new clutch cover cooling

Have you been turning your machine off when rolling it?  All the wear is not happening just from sidehilling is it?

I always wear the tether so it never stays running.  It just comes from side hilling not that the sled doesn't end up on it's side once in a while but I don't recall laying it on it's side at all when the new cover got worked. It took about 10 minutes for me to damage the cover pretty much first hard side hill to the left.

I just installed my second CVT shroud.  The 2012 kit comes with an additional brace to help keep the shroud out of the clutch.  My last ride finished off the 2011 kit shroud.  The shrouds are too thin and flimsy and allow the primary to touch when carving hard to the left.  The shroud is still better than running without one but not much.

Yes mine had additional brace and that didn't help at all. Waited months for Ski Doo come up with a solution to fix the cover and it didn't even last a day. Not so impressed with the solution they came with.

maybe it was installed wrong, put the freeride completeley on its side and there was no problem.

Not installed wrong my sled lives on one ski always side hilling. It's not just my sled I have three friends with 2012 etec's they all have the same holes in the clutch cover. The side panel some how needs to be made stiffer.
