I demolished my bumper two weeks ago, slapped in a new one for 59 bucks and life is good.
I feel that if the bumper had been stronger it would have damaged the bulkhead which would not have been good.

I've used cables on two of my old sleds and will be installing them on my XM soon. No problems.

I smash my knees into there all the time. I practically steer with my knees some times and thus far no worries. Did the same on my XP too with zero problems.

My XM X got hot last weekend on a long trail with nowhere to cool off. No ice scratchers then, so what I found was that if I drove slow and constantly brapped the throttle enough to spin the track it would throw enough snow to keep from overheating. I doubt it would have worked if the trail was any harder.
Thanks for the reminder to pick up some scratchers.

I like Irondog's kit. It's cheap (free is pretty cheap), effective, and there's no expensive frogskin to tear and replace.
