It's oxidation corrosion, not necessarily caused by ethanol but any moisture that could form on the surface. Metals oxidize over time, especially at joints and in crevices.  It will also occur when two dissimilar metals meet, such as where a steel bolt passes through aluminum.

A little dielectric grease works well to prevent it, plus it makes it easier to get your carb/airbox assy back together.   :smile_old:

Well I cant forsee your shock being blown this early, but who knows. You would see oil over your piston, the shock showing signs of leakage. I upgraded my Gade to 500 lb springs because the ones that come on for stock are only rated for something like 275 i believe + or - on the highest setting of 5. I only weigh 190, but loaded up i am pushing 250 with spare gas and kit. Also i like not bottoming out, i like my back staying straight. Too, you may sometimes want have a family on with you as well so there is some added weight. It only cost $90.00 for 2 springs and all you have to do is take your suspension out, which is a peice of "edit for bad language", just by lifting the rear end really high. You dont even have to loosen you track to remove the suspension, but remember to take the rear bolts out first or it will suck lifting all that weight up 5ft in the air. My buddy and I did this in about and hour drinking beer in a cold garage, lol. Hope this was of some help and not confusing

This early?  Have you ever seen the fluid inside of a shock with a few thousand miles on it?  You know how your lawnmower oil looks when you do the annual change...bout like that.

My question is this. Does anybody know what the estart components actually weigh? Has anyone ever put them on a scale? I did a search but i couldnt come up with anything.

Yes, I have, this was from a REV though, 26 pounds.  Including batt, batt box, hardware, relays, wiring, starter, and ring gear.  A couple pages back someone mentioned just over 20lbs for the new models, seems believable.
