Track Tension / Hi Fax

17 February 2013 - 10:26 PM

Title says it.What is everyone setting their track tension at? My sled was new last season and I put 1400mi. on it.Original hi fax was about half worn at end of season so I went ahead and replaced it while I was servicing the skid.I put kimpex hi fax back on it and its shot at 800mi..First ride this year was in fairly tight (well packed) snow conditions and I did catch it once getting sticky.Put 200mi. on that day and took about half the hi fax that day alone. The other 600mi. came in the U.P. with excellent snow conditions and that finished it off.Major wear area right around front two bogie wheels on each side.

I realize the 200mi. day wasn't perfect but the other 800mi. was.So is kimpex hi fax junk or is what the factory calls for (30-35mm @ 16lbs.) too tight?

I put garland graphite impregnated back on and am heading back to the U.P. in a couple weeks so we'll see if that is any better but just thinking maybe lower tension would be better.I do know cat had some pre mature hi fax wear last year and this year I think they backed their setting off by 1/2" @ same pressure.

Thoughts?

mountain/active base layer

08 February 2013 - 10:27 PM

Received the mountain/active base layer set just in time for a trip to the U.P..Used both but my favorite of the two is the shirt.Has a higher collar the zips up and protects well when running rail beds between the good trails. Also noticed its ability to wick away moisture/sweat and still keep warm when not sweating.Wore it everyday and it still smelled clean after the third day.

The bottoms not so thrilled with.Have all the same results as the top but I only wore them one day.I got size XL.I'm 6'0 and 190lbs and usually XL works great and does with the shirt. The bottoms are perfect length but have a big waist and a crotch area that never ends. All this material bunches up and becomes quite uncomfortable. If you like boxer shorts or your underwear hanging out over your jeans than maybe you would like these.Maybe a large would fit better but don't want to buy them unless I could try them out first.
