In Topic: NEED SOME ADVICE FELLOW DOOTALKERS

Just creep around the forums. Tons of very positive reviews and opinions. Very few failures and the ones that do occur are very well documented. For trail riding, these things are simply a blast. You will not regret it. Lots of power/torque and great handling and ride.  I ride very aggressively with them and they have held up admirably. I have two of them (TNT and Rene). The only real disappointment for me is the clutch rattle that the TRA's have. Annoying is an understatement, but a simple upgrade to the PB80 resolves it instantly.  Too bad you have to wait till next year to enjoy it!

Great stuff!!! Looks like it was a real fun ride.

Makes it a little depressing to know we are done for the year.

I thought I was done too, but the weather stayed cold all week in Timmins. Trails are still mostly open.

Seeing your video sealed the deal for me.....I am gonna get one last rip to Cochrane tomorrow, then heading south to Honduras Sunday for some scuba, sun and Cervesa  :smile_old:

If the  wife gives me that look, I am blaming you!!

09 Gade, 8500 kms of aggressive riding. Needed to replace the oil cooler (2011 version). it had a very small antifreeze drip, and the TRA grenaded in February.I replaced it with a Cudney PB80 that I got from Rotax. Night and day difference! Thanks Rotax.

Last year, I replaced all the huck rivets in the skid for the idler wheels as a preventative measure. A few were loose. $5 bucks for piece peace of mind.

The valve cover was replaced under warranty in 2011 with the updated version. it was only a minor drip, but now it is completely clean and dry,and I replaced the water pump gear while doing the oil cooler. Again, just for peace of mind. FYI, the gear was fine when I removed it.

All were what I consider minor repairs. Certainly a few small fixes /updates for the 09, but it has performed flawlessly.

The 09 TNT was identical in regards to maintenance/upgrades. It has 4500 kms. All the same things were done except the clutch. I will be adding a PB in the off season for sure. It has also performed flawlessly.

I can't even begin to explain how nice and quiet and smooth the PB 80 is compared to the TRA when you ride them back to back.

Lots of riding left here in Northern Ontario. At least a couple of weeks with the snow pack we have.

Trailer up and head to Timmins boys!!!

Also, are you guys using a stainless steel bolt or just a standard zinc coated.

Thanks

In Topic: Upper Gear Retainer Tool

20 March 2013 - 08:51 AM

I have a 2011 1200 and have taken my secondary off several times witgout removing the cover or using the retaining tool. My sled has the mech reverse with the pull handle. When I go to reinstall the secondary I use a pieceof 3/8 rod to guide the shaft and align the gear to get it seated.

I have two 09's and I do not use any.retaining tool. Simply pop the oil filler cap and then remove the jackshaft nut.

Remove the bearing retainer from the secondary side then just pull on the secondary and the whole shaft comes right out.

When you reinstall it,  the gear in the gearcase just needs to be moved a little to align it and the shaft will slide right back into place. install the nut and retorque and you are good to go.
