I have a 2002 Renegade 600 and for something to do this summer i'm going to do a bit of work to it. As of now it is bone stock. The motor has to come out as I need to replace the steering connections (almost 16k on the odo so its really sloppy). So far on my shopping list is lower gearing (any recommendations?), Vforce3 reeds, a rev seat (2003 with the taillight or newer without, whats better?), risers (pivot and a 4in or 6in block? im 6'2), and XP controls. I use the sled for "drift banging" and would like any ideas to make it a bit more fun! Like to see some other projects so maybe I could get some ideas! Any tips would be great! Is there anything i should do/check/whatever while the motor is out? I'm sort of new to sleds (i'll be 16 this summer) so any pointers would be super!

some of the rivets around the foot wells are starting to come loose, common problem or not? is there anything causing this or should I just re-rivet it? If so where do I find the appropriate rivets?

If the rivets are loose you can drill them out if you want. There are a lot I'd probably replace with bolts (there's a few I've got to do on my sled).

I'm 6' 1" and use a Powermadd Pivot Adapter, RSI 7" Riser and RSI Backcountry bars for a total of about 8.5" rise over stock. Great setup for me on this sled. I'd skip reeds and get a clutch kit (unless your reeds are shot, the only reason I went with Boyesens), because you really won't get much, if any, performance increase unless you start porting/etc. 2" track wakes up the sled (even with stock gearing). Wider boards are easy to make too. I've got to finish mine up before putting it up for sale. I hooked up a 6" SLP LED tail light and love it.

I really liked this sled, BUT! It's time for me to move on. These Gades are fun sleds when you get them set the way you want, but I rode the 2013 XM and fell in love (my wallet didn't though...).

Absolutely not!! I have tried and tried, every single time I get my Summit pointed down the trail it veers off left or right through the trees, up the mountain, over the top, down the other side, not to be seen again for hours on end.....lol. I just love that problem.

If you need new carb boots i wouldn't mess around with rubber/composite again, get the Boyesens and you will never have to replace them. You get more for your money.

The Boyesen's for the 600's (Non-HO) use rubber boots.

As for clutch components, you could always buy new stock ones. I'm not sure what they'd run compared to a kit.

What would need replacing? I'm pretty sure the clutch is the original and with 16k on it probably needs a refresh.

buttons, spring, o rings, and check for broken or stuck clutch arms. With that many miles, secondary is due for a freshening up.

SEE STEERING COLOM MOD IF YOUR DOING 4-6" RISER YOU'LL NEED IT!!!
ADJUSTABLE RISERS ARE NICE, I WAS 3/4 OF AN INCH TO TALL ON A HEAVLY BUMPED OUT ROAD AND IT WAS ALMOST UNCONTROLLABLE!
LOWERED IT BACK DOWN JUST THAT LITTLE BIT AND THE FEED BACK THRU THE BARS VANISHED!
CLUTCHING!
SIMMONS SKIS
FRESHEN THAT MOTOR UP W/ A TOP END AND RE PACK THE CRANK BEARINGS W/ISOFLEX AND NEW END SEALS!
BOSS SEAT IS 4 BILLS BUT STILL THE BEST MOD I'VE DONE TO DATE
CKECK OUT MY THREAD= 01'SUMMIT ALL DONE AND ON THE SNOW! FOR MORE IDEAS
GOOD LUCK AND HAVE FUN!!!

No refresh on the motor yet, it was done a little over 4000 km ago, so probably after this season!

A 16in track wouldn't work on the stock suspension and drivers would it?

1.75 x 16 should be at home in there, you can find lots on revs. Boss seat you may find used pretty cheap keep an eye on Snowest they always show up now and then there for a couple hundred bucks. Motor should be fine I have seen lots of buddys run these things in stock form up to 10,000kms or more sometimes just sucks if it fails as its normally carnage. I would look into the steering mod do that first then figure our how much rise you need, if you get Tag/renthal or any kinda bar that has a little kick up its just less raise you need. I normally buy a few when they show up but only an inch higher and lower until i find something I like then sell off the rest to recoupe my money. A lot of this aftermarket goodies show up on Snowest Also and a lot of great guys to deal with, Iam canadian also and have to say those americans give really good deals to the point I don't buy anything in Canada anymore really.

Try finding a challenger in 2" and cut it down then its like a back country track just stiffer. Depending on the style of 1.5 or 1.75 they don't do well in the deeper stuff i found. I mention the Challenger cause there cheap to come across and they always show up. I managed to pick up a 136x15x2 and 141x15x2 for less then $500 shipped to me and both were used but mint. I can't get a 16 under my sled. But anything with a 2.52 pitch will work fully clipped or every third window. I like the fully clipped as i do run extro/intro drivers when i head to the mountains and run my extrovert drivers around my area as its mostly trail and lots of lakes i just run a tighter track.
