HEY GUY'S LOOKING AT A 2005 MXZX 500SS WITH 400 MILES ON IT. GUY WANTS $3500 OBO WHICH DOESN'T SEEM BAD CONSIDERING THE LOW MILES. WHAT SHOULD I BE LOOKING FOR WHEN I GO LOOK AT IT. I'M NOT VERY FAMILIAR WITH THAT NEW OF A SLED. WHAT ARE THE GOOD'S AND BAD'S OF THAT SLED. THANKS FOR THE HELP.
Feel free to call me Troylet, Tripphyliss seems to think it fits.

I'm thinking the '05 X package sleds have the SC4 skid which is a good thing. Plus the X package has the rebuildable shocks. That 500SS motor (really a 597) is a good solid bullet proof motor that has been around since '99 ??? Find out how it has been stored and summerized. The price is topped out even with the low mileage.

Pretty sure that doo did not make a 500ss x package. Might not really be an xpackage. You may want to dig in a little bit more.

But as CV said the 500ss motor is excellent. Not super powerful but very reliable.

09s 500ss is a saaaswwwweeeettt sled!!! (one on right)

IMO rockstar tastes like an ashtray.. When tuned right, Monster will add more throttle burps per second than Rockstar.

Hope you didn't whack it too hard...I sure am glad I had the lid on or it could have hurt...

Yep, you caught that one. No X package 500SS.....only 600 HO, 600 SDI, and 800 HO in '05

yup, no such model in 05. check the tunnel ID to verify model. also curious how it only has 400 miles.

You know you raised your son right when you start the sleds and he says 'Dad, I love that smell!!

The guy lives in Port Huron Ohio, not really known for it's awesome snow. As far as the x package the craigslist ad just say's it has the x package suspension, but the sticker on the sled does say just MXZ. The pic does show resy's on the front but I don't know much more than that. If $3500 is upper end for price what would be a steal considering it's off season.

Not sure on the market in your area but I paid 3k for mine at the end of the 2011 season. 1900 miles and completely stock.

If all he did was add resi front shocks then that will not add a lot of value to it. I would also be concerned with it only having 400 miles. At that low mileage the rings are probably not even seated yet.

Off the top of my head I would say 2500 would be a good deal.

I checked blue book and it's only $2700. That's also a concern i had about the low mileage, that's an average of 57 miles per year. What if anything could be wrong with the motor from sitting idle for so much of it's life. Are those motors carb of fuel injected? Thier is a part of me that would feel more comfortable buying a sled with 4000 mile as opposed to 400. At least you would know everything should be working fine. Like you said this sled is barely broken in yet. What's a guy to do?

if the sled is actually that, an 05 500SS with X pkg shocks with 400 miles on the motor, IMHO, it's worth $3,500, BUT from what you've said, i'd be a litte leary. if you are not sure about it, take someone with you that is familiar with that year sled to look at it. if you could post pics, that may help.....

I've seen that sled online it looks super clean if i was looking for a sled i would buy it. You need to check over really good and make sure the vin matches up with the registration. Really buying anything used is a risk.
