[Ski Dog]

Does anybody know if there's an avalanche class in Wisconsin or the Minneapolis, MN area this Fall? I've been out West 6 times now and figure it's time to get serious about avalanche safety since a guy I know got caught in one and in the same week one guy was killed at Togwotee when we were there in February 2012. I read about avalanches all the time on different sites but when it happens to a friend it really hits home and makes you think.

I'm planning on purchasing an avalanche pack, probe and beacon (I already have a shovel) but I want to take a class to learn how to recognize suspect areas to stay away from and to learn proper search/rescue techniques.

If anybody has any information on classes or contact information of an instructor it would be greatly appreciated. If there would be enough interest in the region, maybe we could get a dooTalk group together to attend . It might be a good opportunity to meet some new friends and learn some valuable life saving lessons.

I once heard that there's a guy that comes to the Central Wisconsin area for a class but I don't know any further details. I'll do some checking around and post my findings.

Too bad there isn't a class in Duluth, it would give me a good excuse to get up there for a few days, I love that city!

I'm in Duluth and you're right great town. Has some great views. I work at a plant that sits next to the lake under the Blotnick bridge and I can watch the big ships come in and out of the harbor. They look darn cool at night with all the lights on.

Don't recall seeing them at Hay Days, but I do know they've been offered in the traveling midwest snowshow in the fall the past couple of years, Novi, Milwaukee, etc. It may have been Duffy.
