I would like to add outer carbides to my ski's. I want to do this to cut down on ski wear. What is the best way to approach this besides just putting a set of holes therough my skis. I see the outer plastic molded sbosses on the skis and would like the new holes at the perfect angle and location. Is there a template or jig to do this so they are at right angle and in right place?

If you are doing this on Pilot skis, you can see where the holes should be drilled by lining up the center holes on the outside edge. You will see where the angled flat spot is on the outside edges of the ski. Drill out in the center of this flat angled area. I looked at the angle of the carbide stud and guesstimated that angle and drilled the 3/8" holes. Worked just fine.

X3. If you are a little off it doesn't matter since the threaded bolts on the bars can be easily adjusted with some gentle tapping of a hammer.

Your 800 Etec engine grenading is simply a confirmation that the 600 really would not have been the right sled for you.

I just tipped the sled on it's side and lay the carbide on the outside of the ski while drilling - easy to line up where the hole needs to go and what angle to drill it at.

My stock carbides spent 1000 miles in the center (as the only carbide) and now another 3600 miles on the outside. 4600 miles on these carbides and they are still good to go! Don't bother spending a lot of money on the outer carbides. The cheapest ones you can get are plenty good!

Well I removed the ski's found some bushings and made a drill fixture so the holes would be right in the ski's. May be overkill but thats how I role. Do right!
