Problem...I dont believe those shifters are compatible with the rear derailleur. Most SRAM stuff has 1:1 pull ratio, meaning the shifter moves the same distance the rear derailleur does when you shift. Shimano stuff is 2:1 ratio. Of course, they are not interchangable. If you really want SRAM, look for the Attack shifters, as they are made to work with Shimano rear derailleurs.

Well that kind of torques me off. Woody told me to look for that, and I specifically asked the guy if those would work with my Shimano XTR derailleurs and he told me they would. This guy is supposed to be a bike shop, too.

Question for all the MTB guys....has anyone personally used NOBU's lightweight shifters?

I have not used them, have heard as much bad as much good about them. I would like to hear from someone directly used them.

These are the one's I am talking about:

BTW...I also have a set of SRAM twist grips for sale. $50 shipped. Just trying to get my money back on them.

Never heard of them but they look sweet! I will say this tho; I'm not sure I have seen a bike with the grip shift style shifters (of any brand) out on the trails. Not sure why that is just know that at least 99% of the mtn bikes I see are using trigger type shifters.

I just didn't want to have any issues. Truth be told: I have short, fat fingers. I have to modify the brake lever on my sled to be able to ride with one/two fingers on them.

I just thought a twist shifter would be less hassle for me to deal with.

BTW I dumped the crank. Sold it on ebay and actaully made some coin off it.

Looking for a different set now.

bustindrifts, I couldn't agree more, especially after this past weekend. I got to see Maize's old sled "Madness" and the pictures on his website don't do justice to the beautiful machine!

You guys are making me blush! I can't do any of this stuff without my customer's.

Bustindrifts, that yellow Cheby isn't mine. You will have to talk to Woody. LOL

Madness was a tough giver. I absolutely LOVED that sled! She has the battle scars to prove it. LOL

So....I dumped the silver Shimano crankset. Sold it. The new crankset is on the way.

The new crankset is a new take-off. It is a 2012 Shimano XT 170mm 42-32-24:

Another big shout-out to Woody. Got a big box of goodies today...I got the Ditch Witch wheels, Hayes disc brake rotors, quick release skewers, Manitou front fork.

I also got the rear derailleur. BONZAI!!!!!!!!

I would recommend trigger shifters as well. Grip shift is pretty old school and not very intuitive.also actually more prone to failure and corrosion.

I realize all that, but I have explained my reasoning behind using the twist shifts.

You need to adapt a fogging machine with two stroke scent!

Trust me you dont want grip shifters, they wear our over time and they rally your hands and give you sores, After riding bikes with the trigger shifters i can't even imagine how i rode with thoes stupid grip ones. And i have very short hands...my GF's fingers are just as long as mine if not longer lol.

Well...I am going to try the twist shifts.

It may end up being a scenario of "I told you so", but that is the way I am going to go for now. I may end up going the lever route later on, and will have to modify them.

I am in the same boat, my wife's fingers are as long as mine.

You won't have to modify them. They are made to fit all finger sizes. Myself selling and fixing bikes for 7 years never had a person have this issue. Triggers even come on 20 and 24" wheel kids bikes.

Anyway, you going to try those Nobu's?

I think I am. They aren't that badly priced. So we will see what happens. I may end up with triggers, but maybe not.
