those two show sleds have 2012 geometry and rails,

the proto sleds here in swden looked like that to, but they had both new and old drop brackets installed.

We usually get the first "production" prototypes over here.

Anyone seen or tried a XM with the new rails and geometry like in the studio picture above? IronDog?

Where's Dave Nora on this subject.

Its Norona...and i have been busy having fun!

It's true engineering tested many rail configuration before releasing any of the demo Summits( the ones you all rode, as well as our freeride sleds). They found out that the best results were with the 2012 rail configuration. The REV-XM chassis has been ridden by literally hundreds of people with rails that have a curve similar to 2012 - not one of them has failed to see the substantial improvements this set-up brings to the Summit. What you feel in the sled on your demo rides has more to do with many other things than just the rails, engineering is always trying new things, things I will not get into here, but things to make the summit rev xm the best mountain sled out there...get out and enjoy the fresh air!

Didnt we hear the same thing when the crappy rails first came out,[Engineered} I for one have installed Tom,s new design and huge improvements on the 2011, I would sure like to hear the reasoning behind the rail tips that point to the sky,They do nothing and allow a huge dogleg which grows as the skid compresses.

The pictures Doo has up of the 2013 Summits show a new rail design, not the 2012 design.

I fail to see how the 2012 design could trench less than the design I was told I was getting when I ordered my 2013 Summit.

x2 this is not cool tell us one to get everyone to order then change it and not say anything about it BRP you advertise one thing on your site and yet those of us that ordered are going to get an old design that most were not happy with the new rail design was a plus for most of us that ordered.

Norona how do you like the beta dirt bikes, would like to see bombardier get back into building can-am dirt bikes again. Building a street legal 175cc -300 cc e-tec enduro would be great, enduro type bikes were extremly popular in the seventy's. I had a 1974 t'nt 175cc rotary-valve, would lug around at low rpms but would accelerate hard once the rpms climbed.

The sled pictured in the original post appears to have the rear scissor farther back than the '12....that is good. If it doesn't, at least there is now material in that rea to drill our own holes without making or buying a bracket.
The rail profile on the '10-'12 geometry is inferior to the '08-'09 (or Toms profile) with regards to getting around in the deep, which is where the focus SHOULD be on the Summit IMO.
I guess they will leave room for the aftermarket to improve. :Cheers

I first said NO when I saw the XM because it lost no weight, then I said YES because the new rail design and then NO again and I did not snow-check when I found out it was back to the same old design. When I rode a friends Poo this season, it floated to the top of the soft snow and across rough tracks without hardly feeling them, while my Doo trenched through and I was bounced around from much feedback. It was just too noticable to ignore. So for 13 the Doo front end is the same, the rails are the same, the suspension is the same, the motor is the same too. I know the track and T-motion is different along with some other nice changes but just not enough. I rode it for 3+ hours and found that the weight on the ski's is the same as my 11 and this IS (in my opinion) the problem.

I will wait to see what 14 brings as I expect we will see the 6 arm clutch that is on the 1200 for 13 and we also should see the curved a-arms and a floating secondary. If they drop 30+ lbs I will be interested again.

13 will be a good year to test a Poo and wait for Ski-Doo to really get serious. I just hope the Poo motor holds out longer than Ski-Doo does with these needed changes.

The 13 Doo will be the very best sled when on 2 ski's, it's just that more and more of us spend the day on 1 ski most of the time.

I like it, I am use to riding 250's mostly so this is a bit bigger, the power is awesome, especially since it is not fuel injected which really helps the 250's, the suspension is nice and the bike is balanced...I have only put about 180km on it but heading out thursday till sunday again...yeah can-am dirt bikes...that would be cool...

This thread has certainly caught my attention...

I have snowchecked a 2013, and the reason I snowchecked is because of the handling of the 2013 I Demo'ed at Mount Washington in early April.

The bottom line is that I want the sled I recieve in October to have same handling that I had on the demo ride. If the sled I demo'ed had the 2012 rails, then I'm ok with my new sled having 2012 rails, if the demo sled had the new rails, and this impacts the handling then I'll be talking with my dealer.

Can someone confirm what rails were on the demo sleds that came to Vancouver Island?
I've attached a couple pic's of our ride day, unfortunately there are no clear shots of the rails.

I'm going to call my dealer as well, and discuss this with him as well.

For reference, here's the rig that our demo sleds were brought to Mount Washington in.
I assume someone will be able to confirm what style of rails were on these demo sleds.

This looks like the same rig that was up in Corbin BC on April 5th. This is when I tried them and the suspensions had been moved back (with rails similar to 2012) and the original rivit holes in the tunnel filled. They rode just fine but they were definately not like the picture where the XM is compared to and inline with the Polaris suspension. My bet is you also rode the modified set-up since it was in April too. I would suspect that some guys that rode them early, could have rode them with the other suspension set-up. Maybe some-one in the know, could chime in here and let us know when they made this change. Again don't get excited too soon as the BRP rep did say that the change was for the better and the polaris style set-up just did not work for them???

I've got a call in to my dealer. He is checking with Wilson - the guide we had during our demo ride. Was Wilson your guide as well? He's out of Whistler / Pemberton area.

XM has too much weight /rider forward to mimic the Polaris suspension.JMO

The word I got back from my dealer is that he was told anything with the T Motion suspension will have the new 2013 skids, anything else will have the old style skids.

This still doesn't quite jive with what I'm reading here though...

Maybe I'll PM Norona & ask him to comment.
