Ive got an f150 with the ecoboost and it is surprising how much it will tow and doesnt shift out of 6th gear, the heavier the load on and it performs just as good with a crazy amount of power. Fuel mileage is not as stated by ford but still not bad when you compare it to any other V8 with less towing capabilities.

What kind of mileage are you getting?

I traded in my 5.7 Tundra for an F-150 ecoboost with max tow package (11,300 lbs tow rating). I had my heart set on a diesel, but my wife did the calculations of how much and how often I tow and superseded me into an ecoboost. Long story short, the ecoboost makes power just like a diesel and holds the gears just nicely. Can't compare any other gasser to the ecoboost as the other gassers need to rev higher in lower gears just to compare to where the ecoboost feels at home pulling in the low RPM ranges. The ecoboost is basically a small diesel trapped in a gas body making the same type of power followed by a bit of turbo lag.
Can't beat the big diesels for towing as they also have the bigger frames, but the ecoboost half ton is a great alternative for a decent price.

I believe the gear is 3.73, As another post said, my 5.3 can pull it but it screams going up moderate grades of northern WI.

I like the idea of bringing my loaded trailer to the dealer and hooking up a new rig and comparing it to my current truck going 0-60.

My 2 cents, 0-60 doesn't mean much to me. 30-70 tells a better story. That's when the gearing really comes into play. Passing or merging is where the performance is needed. I can't remember the last time I drag raced a guy with a load on!

I just got a 2012 F150 Ecoboost with a 3:31 rear end (my first Ford). I towed an 18' covered trailer with 2 sleds. A relatively light load, but I barely felt it. No sway whatsoever, just punch it and it goes. On the ramps I still got pulled into the back of my seat. Factory trailer brake control is a must. I spoiled myself and got the rear view camera. I had another guy waiting to guide me onto the tongue and I said NO, stand back!! I hit it bang on, first try!

I LOVE that truck.

Oh yea, mileage while towing was 20L/100KM at 90 to 110 KPH (sorry, I'm Canadian, eh).

I have't towed long enough distance on highway to really get the numbers yet, but just like all gasers, the weight of your foot usually tells you if your going to get reasonable or terrible. Its been much better then my Tundra both towing and not. I towed a 25' camper trailer to test back to back with both my new ecoboost and my brother in laws new 250 6.7 diesel and was surprised how well the little 150 compared. With the $15,000-$20,000 price difference its hard to justify the extra coin when calculating economics, but if we all thought that way for all our toys, we would all be riding little 500cc sleds.

Your mileage as well as the truck you need will depend on how you tow. 4 sleds with a modest trailer would still be around 5000 lbs doable for several properly equipped 1/2 ton trucks or SUVs. I tow a 4200 lbs boat with a Ford Sport Trac (V6) with no problem. I don't tow at 80mpg or expect 0-60 in 12 seconds but I only tow the boat 2-3 months a year and I like the smaller size and driveablity of the Ford for the other 9+ months out of the year.

I'll admit gas mileage could be better. I can get 14 towing two sleds in a clam shell running in 4X4 high as long as I stay in the 63-65 mph range. Jump to 70+ and it drops to 9-10.

I have never checked when towing the boat, but I know its not good.

I'm looking at selling the boat. If I do I may try the new Ford Escape. Its supposed to get 30+ mpg and has a towing capacity of 3500lbs. Thats plenty for two sleds. I'll miss the truck but not the gas bill.

I have the ecoboost 11-13 @ 55-60 mph and 8-10 @ 70+. I CANT keep the truck below 80 mph thou love the turbos. I also have the max tow pkg.

Could not agree more that power needed from 30-70 more so than 0-60. Love the electric brakes on the trailer and had aftermarket add on module put on my burb. Will definitely do the factory trailer brake and the factory rearview camera as I can't exactly move the tongue of the loaded enclosed vs my open two place and have to be spot on with the trailer hitch. Is the camera in the rearview mirror adequate or is the larger center console a lot easier?

My dad has the f150 ecoboost and he gets 18 mpg unloaded and towing 5-6,000 lbs he's getting 13 mpg. His truck has the max tow 3:73 rear end and the truck makes max torque at 1600 rpm rather than a v8 would be 3-3,500 rpm.

I am liking the sounds of the eco boost. The torture test that is on the Ford site or You Tube is pretty impressive! Gas MPH is about 5 mpg better than what I am currently getting both unloaded and trailering. That is an extra 150 mile range on a tank of gas.

Just a note the rear view camera is great. You can adjust the angle of the camera with a push of a button and it is right on your hitch. No more getting in and out because your wife cant seem to get you close.

That suburban should have no problem towing an inline trailer in tow/haul mode and in 3rd gear. It'll hunt too much in D, so drop it in 3rd and let'r eat. You'll find you won't get much better then 10mpg in any of them once you hook a decent sized load.

Unless its a 5-6 place inline, there's no reason to go 3/4 ton in my opinion. They are all decent trucks, pick the one that best fits your needs, with towing package, and with 3.55 gears (or 3.73's) so your MPG's are manageable when empty, but it'll still tow just fine.

I think any of the motors are a good choice, remember 10yrs ago we were pulling with 5.7L 260hp trucks and thought they were fine, everyone is way over that HP wise, and most have the 6sp tranny's which tow amazing (even with a bit higher gearing).

Good luck with your choice!

What kind of mileage are you getting?

Averaging 15L per 100km with the trailers on the back cruising at 100kmh without the trailer its around the 14L mark. Love this truck it feels like it could haul down a house. And as stated by a few other members the back up camera is great for hooking up your trailers when alone. If yyour going to get a ecoboost get the trailer towing package with the built in brake controller. The computer also keeps track of trailer mileage that the trailer has gone when hooked up to the truck, very cool feature for servicing the trailer.
