I posted this in another topic - http://www.dootalk.c...howtopic=413404 . But the topic title does not apply to my issue.
This is the RAVE valve I have on my 1995 Summit 670.
The washer below which I circled in red moves on the shaft along with the o-ring required? I replaced this last year with a brand new washer and only drove around 300km's since. I reused the gasket when I cleaned the raves so I had a small leak, with the raves removed I noticed the inner hole in the washer is already super enlarged which is not a surprise since the washer just bounces around!! A sliver of metal hanging off one of the washers which would eventually make it into the cylinders! Is this washer required?
I just reinstalled them with fresh gaskets, gasket hi-tach and new zip ties so I'd rather not remove them, but if this washer isn't required I'll take them apart. I also sealed the bellows with Copper RTV as suggested by djm in another post.
The Clymer manual I have (1990-1995) does not mention this washer at all! However on World Of Powersports the washer is shown. The 583 does not have it, the 1996 years do not have this extra washer! I realize in 1996 they went to 1 piece rave valves.

0 downloads583, you can see there's only an o-ring after the nut:

0 downloads670, you can see there's clearly 2 washers one before the nut and one after (which there's no way it could be fastened). Part #7 are the washers. Part #9 is the o-ring
