How good are fox float shocks for my skidoo 2005 rev renegade 600 please help i what to no how good they are?????

Well...I ride a lot of back country. I have had friends hit a stump and blow them out. We had to zip a branch so he could limp out. Oil filled shocks still have the spring to support them.

Me personally, I would not run them in the mountains. But I know people who like them. My HPG aluminum bodied shocks with titanium springs are actually lighter than Fox Floats.

yikes, was it a float or an evol? Either way, pricey to replace. I would love to see some pics of the stick zip tied in there!! I guess the main reason I said "the best there is" about Fox is because of the ride quality, second to none in the bumpy stuff.

I was wondering about the fox floats myself, seams like I see a lot of them for resale..I know could be from part outs, just wondering if it's also from people who just didn't like them.

I disagree about the ride quality. Usually most floats are valved too stiff as they come from the factory... Secondly the air quality is not big enough on the shocks without the extra air chamber to give you good spring (air) pressure at both ends of the spectrum.

And as Maize stated, I have as light or lighter aluminum rebuildables from HPG or KYB...even with the spring on them... some of the new doo springs are essentially as light as my old Ti springs.

I have Fox Evol X's on my summit right now, even with the dampening ajustments on them, I am just now getting close to a decent set up and I am on my third valving.

I plan to switch back to aluminum mono tubes and doo spring for next season.

If I was going to run fox floats, I would recommend you buy them straight from someone like Tom's and explain how you ride and what you are looking for. He will valve/set them up for your needs and you are more likely to be happy the first time. Might pay a little more but it would be worth it.

The big advantage they had at one time was weight. Now some of the minimum light weight springs that doo has and the new lighter aluminum KYB shocks have negated that weight advantage.

The float needs the extra air chamber to be competitive and that ups their weight..

So I would just go with some of the new KYB's and new summit springs. Both Ian and Maize could set you up with a light weight shock that performs as good or out performs the float for less money...

Depends on your riding style. If you pin the flipper through the deep rough stuff you will probably like them because the air shocks have great resistance to bottoming. If you put around 20-30 mph even on long straights, normal shock will probably be better at absorbing the litte stutters and dips.

You better have the fox float X evolve shock with the extra oil chamber if you are going to use them for pounding across moguls....for extended periods to keep the shock oil from heating up and the damping from going south - the air is only a serves the function of a spring...It does nothing for mogul dampening and you have to start with the fox R evol with the secondary air tank to get enough air volume to allow you to have both a softer spring and a stiffer non bottoming spring. And once you put all extra air chamber and the oil chamber on.. the weight goes up...

Wild is there something wrong with wanting to have a shock set up that will pound the bumps but not pound you at the same time... and to be honest you can do both with either Evol X or the Axis or Z-bro shocks with compression and rebound damping.. More guys can get you there quicker with the Axis and Z-Bros...

I had a set of front Floats and hated them. The only feature I liked was the ability to control ride height easily but in their defense, they werent evol X's either. Im currently running a set of Monster Performance piggyback Fox Podiums in the front and they ride probably the best of any shock Ive had under me on a sled, but being made by Fox really doesnt have so much to do with it.

Im in the midst of a home addition project now but at some point this summer I'll send them in for service, I think Id like to try softening the low speedn on that warnert racing rear shock a bit. Im pulling the XRS torsion springs and going back to stock too... just a bit too stiff for my old lazy self.
