I bought a set of 10:1 je pistons to put in my engine. The local dealer is installing them and he called and said that the pistons are to high in the cylinder and will not let the engine roll when the head is bolted on.Did anyone ever hear of this. The pistons are supposed to be a direct replacement for the stock ones and the block, head and gasket are stock untouched.
there are a few different JE pistons out there for the 1200 but all have the same piston height as the stock rotax piston's, sounds like someone mixed up the part #'s, who did you buy them from???

Not sure if the 4tec block is integral with the upper case, but if it isn't and the carillo rods are prohibitively expensive, you could machine a spacer and have better control of setting your compression ratio. Carillo rods are practically art work, though.Be nice to have them in your engine! What is the durability of the stock rod on modified engines?NO THE PROBLEM IS THAT PISTON IS MADE TO RUN WHIT THE CARILLO RODS THAT ARE .078 SHORTER IT IS A 4 YEAR OLD COMBINATION IT IS THE BEST ONE. CALL CARILLO FOR A SET OF ROD THERE IS NO OTHER COMBINATION FOR YOUR PISTON WISCO PISTON SET IS CHEPER AN USED THE STOCK ROD. HOPE THIS HELP

Sounds like they may have been machined wrong? Or they are installed backwards? There are no marks on the JE's to tell which is the exhaust side.
they don"t need to be marked as the valve reliefs are different sizes on the top of the piston intake larger exhaust smaller.
Turbo is correct on the piston I had forgot that JE had made those pistons for a 4mm shorter rod to allow for larger ring lands to strengthen the pistons under high boost.

the 4-tech cases are a matched set and can't be machined that way.

I'm not sure you got what i was saying, adrenalator. I meant if the cylinder block is separate from the upper crankcase half.In other words, not part of the upper case. If you bolt the cylinder block on, then you can machine a spacer that fits under the cylinder block to make up that extra height of the pistons. You can make it whatever you want to get the deck height you want. I don't mean machining any thing off the cases. Lots of 3 or 4 cylinder 4 strokes are coming as integral nowadays, meaning the block is part of the upper case. I'm not sure if the 4 tec was like this.the 4-tech cases are a matched set and can't be machined that way.

I am aware of the difference in the valve reliefs however installers can make mistakes, especially some of the tech's at dealership's. As Hurricane stated JE makes more than one style piston for these motors also.

YES! I said that in post "2", and you said they weren't marked, I'd say if your to lazy to flip the piston over to check it for correct installation your should be digging ditches with a shovel.not building turbo engine's.
