well im gradutating from the auto tech program at the local community college in 3 weeks and ive been looking for a new truck for a few months now, finally found one and pulled the trigger on it. with a little help from the international bank of mom and dad, lol. i allways loved the 78-87 body style chevy trucks my dad had a bunch when i was younger and i allways wanted to be just like him so thats what i set out to find, really wanted to find a 85 chevy k20 4x4 350 with the 4 speed with granny low. being in the wonderful northeast one worthy of daily driving is like finding ridable snow this season......... to make a long story short this truck popped up on craigslist at a local dealer, purchased in oregon and trailered back to ny to there lot, i looked at it saturday and wow holy clean, i went back monday test drove it and pulled the trigger on it. it was much much more than i wanted to ever spend, and way more than i could afford at that but my parents being as awsome as they are helped me out, gave me the cash up front and i am selling my current truck to give them a big payment back and going to pay off the rest in hopefully 2 years or less. anyways, its a 1984 chevy c20 silverado package, 2wd long box camper special 454 big block with a turbo 400 10.5 14 bolt rear end. power windows and locks, a/c, factory c/b radio and even a quartz clock in the dash. the place told me it was orignal at 67k miles, ran a car fax and it definatly rolled over the odo once so its at 167k miles but you wouldnt know, its been repainted but it was profesionally done, and very good at that, all the trim is still in beautiful shape and was pulled for the paint, and the striping on it has great overlap around corners to keep from peeling. there was no bodywork done, its all steel and the frame has never been touched with no rust what so ever.

here are a few pics

so thats what the 2013's are like.lol really amazing to see a truck that old with out rust holes. but i see some chevys from the 80's that look better than one from 2001. my guess is the sheet metal was thicker then. darn salt in ny a new truck only looks good for 5 yrs then they show visible rust. time to get another one.

Nice trucks! I picked up my gpa's old 84 GMC 1500 with the 6.2 diesel, but its going to need a lot of work, rust, a couple valves are stuck open...etc.
Need any Rev parts? Check out my Rev part out here http://www.dootalk.c...0-rev-part-out/

get rid of those grandpa running boards on that blue one and get a bit taller tire on the black one. aside from that those things are awsome. i had a 79 silverado regular cab long box 4x4 when i was in high school. i like the 79s and older. i really like the 69-73s. the 80s if done right i like to though

Those are both great looking trucks ,the 80s is just about the end of the era where a backyard mechanic could easily maintain their own vehicle and dodge the prohibitively costly electrical woes of computer controls . I looked long and hard to find my van that will be my long term travel vehicle , 88 Club Wagon diesel , it gets put away as soon as snow comes :wink_old:

running boards gotta stay, for one they will save the rockers doors and bedsides from rock chips less chips less chance for rust and it rounds out the camper special package nicely. and two the custom braketry that someone built for them is just too nice to put to waste. its a full 1x1 square tube frame that goes from one board to the other, 5 cross bars with gusseted vertical bars up to the frame that have been slugged where the bolts go thru the frame. im 300 lbs and i can jump up and down on the boards and they dont move.
and the black one needs tires to make it thru the winter, just gonna get 31x10.5s for now. come spring im gonna get the front spring pack re arched and have them add a leaf so it will be about 3 inches higher and out back im gonna run a shackle flip with 56 inch leaves for a more progressive travel get more hight but not super stiff. goal is to run 33x10.5s as its a winter truck i want to keep narrow tires under it.

Its refreshing to see someone of such youth pay homage to the accessories of the era and not just the vehicle itself. You have a real period piece there my friend, cherish it.
