I have an 03 mxzx 440 with a new this season 07 nun and I was tossing around the idea of throwing a 700 ported motor in it and extending it out to a 144 or more. It was either that or try harder to sell it and by a dedicated mountain sled. Odds are it would be an m7 153. I'm moving to co in august so I have some time but not much.

Thoughts?

extend your sled and make a 738 big bore.

i plan on doing something similar just not extending my sled.

either a 738 or 880 big bore. depends what deals i can find

Any idea on the cost of it? I'm gonna be in college so my budgets pretty tight.

Mod it. Last fall i extended my 04 440 to a 151 and put a ported 700 motor in it, clutched with DJ's help, and the thing tore up the mountain all winter long. I was lining up with stock 800 summits and walking all over them. I stuffed at 151x16x2.3 track under the 440 tunnel. This is the funnest sled i have ever ridden. It made the guys with $12,000 mountain sleds drop their jaws when i would go flying up the mountain past them.

Any idea on the cost of it? I'm gonna be in college so my budgets pretty tight.

my plan for my 04 this summer if i ever get some extra cash is to: 600ho/700 topend. 136 ext, id like to find a set of hillcross rails or skid. 136x 1 3/4 backcountry track . pretty basic but it would be a killer bondocker. i dont really need much more that a 136 for maine riding anyway.

Being on a budget, you'll want to buy a stock sled.

While projects are awesome, and I've done a couple myself, they are incredibly expensive, although it doesn't look like it when you spend just a hundred here hundred there. When all said and done, its usually cheaper to buy a better sled and start customizing that...

Generally, building a sled is not cheap...i would entertain selling yours and buying a summit if money's an option

Sell your 440 and buy a summit. Unless you want a snowmobile from 2003 that cost as much as a 2011 summit... If I were to add up receipts from the past 3 years I'm sure I have between 8-9000$ into my 2003.5 summit total (not to mention 100's of hours). Friend bought a 2011 summit 154 last year for 9400$.
I might be able to sell mine for 3000$ if I tried
He could easily get 8000 for his...
I saw an 08 146 summit on craigslist today with a blown motor for 2500$
M7 is a good sled too we see tons of arctic cats up here.

I think i agree with you guys, probably would be better off to just buy a mountain sled than build up mine. Guess its just time to buckle down and get it gone.

Woody what craigslist where you looking at? I can rebuild motors.

there are a bunch of summits and other mountain sleds for sale in Wisconsin, Michigan, and Minnesota craigslist.

i may be able to find you a buyer for your sled also, i will get back to you on that.
