What altitude was the Shout Out at??
Remember you loose 3% h.p. per 1,000 feet of elevation for a non turbo engine....
That is a law of phyisics and there is no way around it.
I am sea level and its not even close to 163.9 hp . I had an 07 Mach Z X 1000 SDI it had 165-170 and it ripped.this 2012 MXZ X 800 etec is supposed to be the fastest baddest "edit for bad language" thing out there but its a turd ! A COMPLETE LET DOWN. WHAT A JOKE ! $12,000 SCAM !

they actually made the power they said in fact I put the mid altitude kit in the 05 1000 and it was a little over 180 and runs great. Hopefully Doo gets it fixed it is a simple solution all they need to do is reflash the whole system and let this motor run like it should.

Your 800 Etec engine grenading is simply a confirmation that the 600 really would not have been the right sled for you.
I wasn't a big EPA emissions fan until I visited China.

Man, I just can't afford to buy the latest, greatest, just to get beat by an 800r? It hurts!
As the O.P. stated, "what a disappointment!" He's right! For sure.....
I used to have your exact same sled, a 09 XP 800R Adrenaline. The only difference was mine was black. Don't get me wrong, I really liked that sled and it will probably go down as one of the best I've owned. I was definitely sad to see it go. All that being said my 2012 is a nice improvement. The big difference is the new R-Motion rear susp. It rides night & day plusher over the stutter bumps compared to the SC-5. It makes shelled out sections of trail that haven't seen a groomer all year somewhat tolerable and on everything else you hardly feel a thing. Other nice little improvements include the taller / more comfortable seat, lighter steering effort, hooked bars, and handwarmers that actually work. As for the E-Tec portion the improved mileage / range is nice as is the lighter throttle effort. For me it about doubled my range. I had my needles shimmed on my 09 so I only got about 11 - 12 mpg. With my E-Tec on my last ride I got 18 mpg and that was part in and part out of break-in mode. So I expect to be in the 19-20 range next year for darn near a 200 mile range. On my 09 I used to start getting nervous when the tripmeter approached the century mark. In other words, worrying about gas stops is now a thing of the past. The other stuff like easier starts and the self summerization feature are just icing on the cake.
I sure hope my third ETEC is good. Perhaps having owned two gives me a different perspective since I just ordered my third so that being said I must be nuts for buying these things based on this thread?
Don't worry, I was happy with mine to. Coming off a P-Tek 800R the E-Tec 800R acutally feels a little stronger in the upper mid-range (60-70) mph range. The only guys that seem to be dissapointed are the guys that spend all day on the lake drag racing back-n-forth. They're the same type of guys that like to " tinker " and mess with the clutching etc... And they may be at least partially responsible for their own problems. As for me, I very rarely operate my sleds at WOT / with the the valves fully opened so it hasn't been a problem for me. It's like once in a blue moon if I'm doing a radar run or if I get a wild hair or something. As for the low end and mid-range the E-Tec seems to pull just as hard if not harder than the P-Tek 800R. All that thick 800R torque / pull is still alive and well in the E-Tec. As for the top end I don't really care as much, I spend maybe 1% of my time there. Besides my 09 P-Tek only did 106 mph on the GPS so the XPs have never really been much of a top end sled anyways. The Rev 800 HOs were faster up top...

I'm just not convinced! I actually want one, just can't take the chance of possibly taking a step backwards. When my 8r runs this sweet!
I'm also sorry to the 8etec riders that have stepped up, and have been disappointed.......Joe........it is what it is.
