Has anybody put pull start on a 600 e-tec expedition? I know you can get the kit for all other 600 e-tec but in the catalogue it says that it is not for the expedition??? Why is this? Im getting ready to spring order a 2013 and wanted to see if anybody can tell me any different?

I have the 2011 expedition 1200 and to date (5600 km) no major problems> I had originally planned on spring ordering the e-tec but at the last minute changed my mind and ordered the 4-tec. My previous 3 sleds were 4-stroke so the decision was easy.
This is my 7th widetrack since 1990 and I can honestly say this sled is by far the most fun to drive. It handles on the trail really well and also off trail, although the e-tec probably would handle better off trail on account of the extra weight of the 1200. I use this sled for hauling firewood and it's as good as any sled I have owned for that purpose. Lots of power and torque.. Fuel mileage is about the same as my last sled (vk pro) I added dual carbides which makes handling on the trails much better. A few guys I know with the e-tecs in the same sled complained a few times about overheating in marginal snow conditions which is what we had in most of march, but I have yet to see the light on. Had some correspondence with a few guys in the big land before I spring ordered my sled and they had nothing but good to say about the 1200 expedition and some not so good things to say about the 600(sdi) so that sorta helped my decision also.
ah decisions, decisions> not sure if this will help or hinder your decision Good luck with it anyhow

Friend on mine purchased the e-tec same time as I purchased my sled and he has pull cord but it was an accessory add on> I know it was available to me if I had purchased the e-tec (2011) my understanding was that if battery dies sled won't start anyhow, but this might not be the case. Not sure what happened for the 2012 or 2013 with regard to pull cord.Kinda leaning towards a 600 but if i cant get a recoil for it i might as well have a 4-stroke. Etec is 53 lbs lighter and with the amount of snow we get here that is huge. My main concern for this post is to find out if anybody has put pull start on an expedition 600 etec.

snow conditions were fairly decent> still riding yet anyhow. Didn't get much after march set in
Going to hang on to this sled for another season and see what happens then.. Hoping for a little bigger ace 80-90 hp
Would suit my needs perfectly

Lab City, same as Goose.....sled ordered, expedition se 600 e-tec, pull start is coming on it. Also heard some people say that without a battery it wont run but my deealer says it will run without battery so this is good. Cant wait for next year.
FYI - I'm not sure, but with a 'dead' battery I don't think it will 'start' - I believe it will send any juice from the magneto to the battery first and none will be left for the ignition/injection if it's completely dead. I seem to recall my 06 Renegade manual stating if you had electric start and the batt was completely dead you couldn't pull start it.
If you pull out the battery (no battery) maybe it will start but I suspect you might need to connect the battery leads together. I remember my friends Mach-Z having a dead battery (really dead, like dead for a year) and I couldn't even jump it with cables or pull start it. I couldn't pull start it with the battery disconnected eithere. I removed the battery and put it on jumpers and it wouldn't run either. It would start/jump if the battery wasn't completely dead though. (Prior experience with this same sled.).
Also, with regard to emergency starting, all the 2 stroke sleds still come with the rope
so you can pull it that way in an emergency.

That is a problem with the SDI sleds, bad or no battery no start or poor function.
The Etec just needs to be cranked some to make the stator produce 55/1200 for the DI and ignition circuits (think it´s 60/1200 on the 800s), then when the engine starts the ECU gives clearance to deliver the 12 volt for all other consumers like light, electric fan, grip heaters etc.
That´s the main reason why it most of the times are very easy started on first pull for the non battery sleds as all energy goes into the starting ignition and coil injector procedure

Didn't Milley have a previous post earlier this winter about installing the rope starter??That is a problem with the SDI sleds, bad or no battery no start or poor function.

Yes. Quite the teardown... I had better go look for it for future reference as I am going to need it...!

No biggie, just some patience and small hands
Should be possible to find a cheaper pull start than BRPs overprized one, I´ve started to search Evinrude and Johnsson but no luck yet, still there has to be on the shelf parts somewhere.....

Do you really think that Evinrude/Johnson has a recoil that would bolt up to the case halves of an Etec engine? These are two different concepts really with an external flywheel/pickups/ring gear/etc. on the outboards if I am not mistaken.
Still, any headway you can make to reduce the price is fine by me

No, I don´t think but hope never leaves a human being.
Here the manual cost +2000 SEK/300 CAD
Still, there must be some "on the shelf parts", if not BRP are plain stupid and haven´t understood the meaning of compartementlisation and on that they have done their homework I´m sure, there´s more money in that for bottom line for them to disregard it.
Here's the thread showing just how far you have to pick the sled down to install a recoil starter...

Little tricky to guide the rope
On the other hand, I haven´t used a pull cord on last 4 sleds, havent even changed plugs on them and still they have cranked ok when out in the cold down to -35-40 C
