i have been wondering if the 2013 800 etecs have anything new to help with the vibrations, rpm issues, and overall reliability from 2012.

thanks. :revinmotion:

What reliability issues are there with the 2012 800R etec? I have not heard of one burn down or motor failure this winter, and in the mountains, thats pretty significant.

Vibration issues? Again, is this something you experienced, or read someone's buddy who's friends with a guys cousin, girlfriends Dad's is really bad.

RPM issues appears to be a top/peak RPM issue that affects lower elevation riders. Of the comments I have "read" on here, most guys are trying to run higher than recommended RPM's because thats where they feel the sled makes the best power, but then complain they are having issues.

Zero peak rpm issues on anyone I know with a 2012.

I have had no problems with my 2012 Etec and that is after 2000 km of mountain riding. My belt even lasted 1600 km. Vibration; never. RPM issues; hit the limiter in the early season and I adjusted the clickers, problem cured. Reliability; not an issue.

IMHO, the 2013's will just be a little better or more finely tuned.

No problems at all with my 2012 800R MXZ TNT. I put 2200 miles on it this winter, all without a single problem and nothing but ear to ear grins . Original belt looks great and I couldn't be happier with my sled in every regard. Like they always say, everyone complains when something goes wrong, but no one says how wonderful and problem free their sled is. Well I am here to say I would buy another 2012 800R in a heartbeat and would recommend one to anybody.

One of the biggest dealers here in the North East has seen exactly 2 800 ETECs with the RPM issue in the last 2 years. That is 2 as in TWO. One was a reed issue, the other the guy changed out his clutching before he even rode the sled and was chasing demons. This is a mega dealer, dealer of the year, blah, blah, blah. They outsell all other brands with Ski Doo, and this year they were located in the heart of the little snow we got, so everyone traveled to this area. It is nothing for them to see 20-30 sleds dropped off for service in one weekend day across brands. This is not hear say, we know the head wrench outside of the shop, he's confirmed that these are very good engines with little issues.

I feel bad for the people with the RPM issue and I agree it's very real, but it's only effecting a very very small percentage of the ETECs out there. My local dealer has seen zero issues with these.

I was concerned with reports here on Dootalk, but if you read through the 6 threads on RPM issues, you see that it's alot of the same people commenting in the same thread and across threads so it puts up the illusion that the whole community is fighting with these machines, where it's not the case.

Why don't you name the dealer? If I had to guess I would say Lemeux's(sp) in Colebrook. Yes they are excellent...witnessed it first hand myself on a buddies sled.

I know I have, 1100 miles, all mountain, belt looks good as new. Pulled one cord a few weeks back. Had been running it pretty hard through the deep stuff in the trees up hill.

Stock clutching has its flaws, but I have learned to live with it.

Vibrations and general reliability have been good in our group......the rpms are a different story.

All 4 of us have had rpm issues. Some have it, some dont. Maybe the ones that dont are just wussies.....LOL (just kidding).

Hope Doo has it figured out for 2013.

I have a 2011 800 ETEC. After 2300 miles, not belt problems but blew an engine due to a crank bearing that came apart. A friend with a 2012 800 ETEC with half the miles with no belt issues but had 2 fuel injector issues that was creating major bogging. Another with a 2011 I believe with no problems. No RPM issues, but 2 machines had flat spots at 80-90 mph until the RAV valves opened and launched you into orbit. That was fixed on mine with the engine rebuild in some unknown way. The other is being dealt with through clutch work. What I have seen suggests that each needs its own tweaking to get it to where you want and it is not universal.

Don't believe people that say there are no problems and don't believe those that say they are nothing but unreliable. Everything has it pluses and minuses, doesn't matter what it is. It is a high performance machine that is often driven hard. Of course there are going to be some issues on record. Overall, doesn't sound like there is anything that should keep you away from going through with your choice.
Soyfsott - something we should all live by.
Your 800 Etec engine grenading is simply a confirmation that the 600 really would not have been the right sled for you.

You guys running tower braces for the clutch? Gotta ask this one since everyone had great luck with belt wear. I had one on my 09 and had great belt life...just wondering if its needed on the later chasis and on my 13'
