hi i am looking to upgrade to a summit because i want to start going to the mountains. right now i am looking at 2 possible sleds to get, both for $5000. should i get an 08 summit x with 146" and 2600 miles, or should i get an 08 summit everest with 154" and 1000 miles?

The X has better rebuildable shocks, the Everest does not. The Everest shocks are most likely no good by now and you'd need to upgrade them as they are not rebuildable. How a sled rides and handles is more important then almost anything else, doesn't matter how fast it is if it can't handle the rough stuff or corner well.

I think I would go with the everest with less miles and the longer track (condition depending of course). Then replace the shocks and have them setup for your kind of riding. But then again, where do you do 90% of your riding? The shorter track might be nice. All depends on you!

The 146 X is for you. It's a great trail sled and can hold it's own off trail and in the mountains. The 154 is a bit to long for trails and tight twisty corners, it pushes a little and you'll not like it as much on trail.

Then the 146'' would likely be a good way to go, but with that many miles difference between the sleds, if they were both equally clean, I would want the power plant with 1000 miles on it for sure. Shocks are fun to play with compared to having to do a rebuild right after buying a sled. Not saying you would, but 3K on an 800 (mountain miles) is starting to get there. Just check 'em both out real good for sure. Then have fun!

EDIT: Oh, and the black looks better anyway. IMHO

the guy said that over 1500 of the miles are around minnesota and not in the mountains. and i dont really want to buy new shocks right away. and i like the yellow better haha

I ride a 154 in Minnesota. My buddies I ride with all ride 154 in MN and it works just fine.

Does the X and the Everest have the same gage package or is it like the MX-Z's where the X's have more functions? I'm also debating between an X and an Everest (2010 models though). I found an Everest with 1,000 miles (500 in the mountains and 500 on the trails) and an X with 1,200 miles, 90% of which were mountain miles. In my case, I'm leaning towards the Everest and figure I can upgrade the shocks if they turn out to be junk.

The X packages do have a better gauge package including an altimeter. Go for the sleds with the non-ported track. I think those came out in 2010. Night and day difference in climbing and deep snow riding. Also plenty of guys have updated to the 36 narrow stance which is also something to think about. New re-buildable shocks and A-arms for about $600. Makes the XP a whole new sled.

The x is a better sled from the factory but I would go with the cleaner and better shape of the 2. If their in the same shape get the X, if its beat get the everest

Go with the Everest and shop for a set of used x package shocks and have them rebuilt. Better off in the long run with less miles and longer track!
