When riding in the woods or in the mountains I never ever at all even once end up in a situation where I need to quickly change heater setting, engage reverse or change from high to low beam. The reverse button could be placed next to the rear light as far as I care!
The only controls to be fitted to the bars are Brake and Throttle and that's it!!
If it by some government regulation needs to be a kill switch on the bars it have to be of spring back type. The normal "Get stuck button" type switch should be banned!
The single thing, other than throttle and brake, that is nice to have on the bars, or more specifically on the riser block, is the tether switch. As it is now, when hooking the tether cord to the D-ring on my jacket I usually manages to tangle the cord around the bars several times a day. If the tether switch is located on the riser block then it moves with the bars and you are less likely to get it tangled up in the bars. And if for some reason you don't want to put it on the riser then at least put it centered and close to the steering column, not far of to one side.
In short, STOP putting unnecessary junk on the handle bars on sleds intended for "active" use!! ... I don't know how many crushed accessory buttons I have had to replace on my sleds over the years.......
.... oh, and by the way. Put the Alu Throttle block on all top of the line sleds, I think we have "Earned" (payed for) it!!

I like to replace the kill switch with a momentary push so tree limbs don't shut my sled off for me.
I moved my '12 hi/lo to the bar riser becuse I was constantly hitting it and getting a check engine from being stuck between hi/lo.
I like that they are getting simpler, I agree we only need the necessities on the bars, put the rest on the console.

I use the reverse button frequently on steep descents....for me it needs to be at my thumb without having to let go of the bars. The simple but effective button they used on the '07 XRS and the '12 X is perfect IMO.

Snap a couple o-rings over your kill switch to turn it into a hold-to-kill. Cheap fix.

Regardless of how many O-rings you put on it it remains made out of plastic and becomes a cloud of dust if hit by anything.
I guess I can tolerate the small orange zip tied reverse button, at least it is easy to move to whereever I want it....

I'll turn the screws of vengeance and bury you with honesty
I'll make all your dreams come to life, then slay them as quickly as they came
Smother another failure, lay this to rest.

Remember due to stupid people manufacturers are required to protect us all.
Now with the aluminum block, the flipper gets busted easier...so should we have aluminum flippers?
I have never once tangled a standard length tether when hookd to my jacket loop anywhere on my body. Its not long enough. That being said I run a longer tether.
The 2013 placement of it being on the right side does allow it to be worn on the right wrist though and no cross over. Since your right hand should always be on the bar anyways it makes more sense.

More than likely i'll retrofit the older block style to get the controls back on the bars.

Does nobody know the kill switch can be rotated wherever you want it? Turn it all the way forward and slightly down... you'll never hit it again without wanting to
I have tried it in every position possible and the only thing that has worked 100% was to cut it away and replace it with a better switch!
And yes, there probably are rules and regulations regarding killswitches, but there have to be a better switch fulfilling all regulations, best one I have seen from an OEM factory was the switch on the -04 ProXR 800 I had back in the days.
Yes, it CAN be nice, once every two months, to change heater setting on the fly. But how common is it to you to discover that "Wow, I have to change thumb heater NOW, within 2 seconds or I will die!!" If you find yourself in that kind of panic I suggest you slow down or stop, at least while you change heater setting.

Looking at the new Summit with the new "slim" high/low beam switch I have something to say.

Agree with all of it!
