I just got finished installing a Garmin Nuvi 500 on my 2012 Backcountry and thought I'd share some pics for others to see. I used a RAM mount and a RAM cradle and I mounted them to the riser block. I used a piece of 1/8" thick aluminum stock and drilled holes for the mounting screws to create a back plate. I like the position it puts the GPS in because it's centered and easy to glance down to view when I need to and it doesn't obstruct the view of my gauges. Most importantly, it's protected from any rollover situations which is important for those off-trail days.

I installed the 12v accessory outlet and use a 12v adapter to power the GPS. Unfortunately, I didn't know until AFTER that power isn't provided at idle. I might buy a hardwire adapter and run it directly to the battery or some other ignition switched circuit. Any suggestions?

Here's a picture of the Digital Multi-function gauge I just installed as well (with the help of my local dealer, who did the programming). Worth the investment, in my opinion.

Jeremy - I to mounted my nuvi in the same place u did but moved it after my first trip with it. It was to hard to see while you were going down the trail because you are constanly bending your neck to look at it. I put mine on top of the gauge cluster and now its way easyier to see,and you can keep your eyes on the trail. I used my helmet visor plug in to get power it comes on when you start the sled and goes off when you shut the sled off. Works perfect. Good luck

Pidge - I originally wanted to put it there but I REALLY like the windshield bag that's there. If I really don't like the location on the riser then I'll move it to the top of the gauge cluster and take off the bag. Great tip on using the visor plug outlet for power. I didn't know that gets constant power whenever the sled is on! I never use that anyway because I ride with a 509 snowcross helmet and goggles.

I had the same issue wiring. Check out the post below. I hard wired and ran the wire up the column with the rest of the wires. When Im not using it I tuck the wire end in the riser block. I feel the better position is on the front of the riser block. Looks good!

Gauman2, thanks for that link. I ordered the hardwire kit from Garmin and it's being delivered today. Your pics in the thread are kinda small and I can't read them at all. Is there anyway you can email them to me? Does that only work for non elec start sleeds or will it be the same for one with elec start?

Jeremy, you have mail. It will work with or without electric start. Red wire attached to the oil reservoir will still be hot on either.

Use an XR dash bag and mount the gps right to the bag. It is slightly bigger than the xp bag but will fit. PM me with your email if interested in how this looks and I can email you pictures. I ran the hardwire up through the dash console and the wire is hidden under the bag (I dont like wires or cords to be visible on my sled) It worked great for me and looks very clean. 2100 miles with this setup this year and the gps is in the perfect place for visibility, it stayed secure and I still have the dash bag to use for truck keys, flashlight etc. Even BRP seemed to copy this idea for the new sleds
