it is the plastic cowl that has the dash and gauges attached to it. There's 2 little screws at the very front and 2 on the side, then it just pulls out of the way. it's really easy to do. hope it works for you

You figure anything out?
I have the same issue with my 600rs.
I am hoping it's just a bad ground somewhere and not the mpem.

Checked the main wiring harness plug and did find a 1 corroaded wire. Cleaned that but still same issue. I am in the process of going through all the plugs on the harness and checking them. Anyone else have any idea's??

The way I was taught to test a spark was to open up the gap to about a quarter inch on an old plug, if it will jump that you are good to go. From what I'm told, it is much more difficult to jump a spark under compression, and the huge gap simulates that. Obviously this is not too scientific, more of a easy test that can be done in the field without special equipment.

you can see the difference side to side. one is definetly stronger then the other when you take the wire off the plug side to side

I would reluctant to depend on a "visual" check to determine a weak spark. You might see it miss but with the electronic ignition its usually good spark or no spark at all.
