Please read through flash700 post linked below. I did not heed the warning and am paying the price now! I know this has been hashed trough in the past but want to make sure any new owners of these sleds get spared the frustration.

It is very important to catch this small problem before it turns into a season ender like it has for me. I did not replace the gear last summer and at 9000 miles the gear stripped and now the balance shaft assembly needs to be replaced. Would not be a big deal except the shaft is backordered until May 2012.
Do not wait for the whining noise to come, mine started whining and within 5 miles I was dead on the trail. You know how you play things out in your mind after things go wrong, I almost traded mine on a cancelled spring order renegade X at the start of winter. Ugh
Reward of $50 for anyone that can find me a 420820057 and 420835061

I am waiting for the same parts as we speak.Mine is a 2009 with only 3000 miles on it.Get ready for a couple thousand for this repair.Mine is also on back order.I did not know it was till May.I guess my season is over.BRP won,t kick in and the dealer is playing like this never happens. We know different now and it is well known if you check these forums.I shake my head knowing now that a 40 dollar part upgrade and a hour labour would have saved this repair and my season.Hope things work out for you and me.Let us all know how it all works out for you.4tec 1200 owners,

Very good idea to change out the gear on all 2009 1200's. I already changed the one on my sled and I just ordered the gear and gasket today for my Brothers sled. The gear is 16 dollars and the gasket is 13. The job is pretty easy to do and takes maybe an hour or two to complete. We are heading up to Northern Ontario for a 1300 mile trip and for 40 bucks in parts and a couple hours time it will give us peace of mind.
Can you verity the part #'s......From flash's post....
420835061-----gear
420430760-----PTO gasket ?????
and then someone says you don't need that gasket, that's what throws me. Maybe need the correct gasket number.
Not one mile this year and still have a summer project. LOL

CVCOBRA1,
You have the correct part numbers for the gear and gasket. I would change the gasket because chances are it will rip when you take it apart. Flash700 has a very good write up on changing just the gears without removing the engine referenced in my first post.
Dealercostparts is a part of cyclepartsnation, I called them direct today, backorder until May. I will reach out to a few Skidoo shops in Ontario, Canada tomorrow. I think today is a holiday for them being family day.

Try Loiselle sports. They are located in Embrun Ontario. Between Ottawa and Cornwall. 613-443-3260CVCOBRA1,

Kelvin i did not single you out. sorry if you took it that way. I was just saying what i think about people in general that know there is a gasket and don't order it because they can save a few bucks.I did not know i need a gasket. So i am glad it did not happen to mé. Just saying.

If you haven't already try Ingles Performance, they normally have more parts in stock than the factory - seriously.Reward of $50 for anyone that can find me a 420820057 and 420835061

The XP is the most fun sled ever made - but I like my XR more.
No Need to Freeze - buy a set of these! http://www.coldguards.com/

I would have ordered a gasket if I know it was there. think it is also a stupid to try to save a few $ for a seal.
So Update.
Buy The new updated gear and a new gasket just In case.
It Can be done with out it. But just In case :-)

Order a gasket with the gear. It's pocket change. Someone that orders the gear without getting the gasket, deserves to rip the gasket while taking it apart and then have to order one anyways and waiting longer to get your sled back together .Just my opinion, sorry.
Hmmm. Not sure wishing ill-will towards anyone for what may be an honest oversight is very helpful.....just saying.
