If 155 is short I would hate to see what your idea of "long" is! LOL

OK here's another thought. What would be better or should I say maybe the advantages, A 155 with a 2" lug or say a 144 or 146 with a 2.5" lug if it's even possible? Would they be kind of equal to each other somewhat? Let's say your trailer will fit a 146 and not a 155 so your forced to get the shorter of the two. Just thrown that out there.

Sick pic! You still loving that s36 front end kit? Curious for feedback now that youve got some more riding on it.

Faaakin love the S36. I was laying the sled over on its side on the hills and walking it sidehill as far as I felt like it with minimal effort. No more yanking to pull the sled into the hill like before. I've never riden the summits in the woods, I only rode Irydslow's summit on the trails that day we rode with them. It had a lot to be desired in the whoops compared to a coupled supension, but that isn't what it is built for. Straight rails are built for the climbs, not as much for the trails.

I don't even agree with people that say there is no difference between 121 and 137 on the trail, nevermind between 137 and 154. I absolutely notice a difference from the XP 121 and the XP 137. It is a little more work in the corners, but it definitely bridges gaps between whoops better. The S36 makes it a little more challenging in the corners but nothing that you are going to be complaining about. The only thing I will say is take a little time to get used to the new tip-ability. It is way easier in the beginning to lay her right down on her side, so it takes some getting used to so that you aren't spinning the sled out on the sidehill.

Also, the S36 makes it way easier to roll the sled out of an uphill stuck. Between Earl of Sandwich and I, and the unlimited powder hill climbs we've been crushing, we rolled our sleds easily over 50 times total this season. Burandt wrote an article about rolling the sled out of a trench that jon and I read and it has been the best advice we've ever read. No matter how deep the trench is, I don't even take out my shovel anymore. Roll it once, right out of the trench, sled sits back upright, pull it and go (obviously less desirable with a ptek and carbs). My stucks last about 5 minutes, max.

I'm really curious about this new mountain suspension Doo is talking about too. sorry about the book, just a lot of stuff to talk about.

137" (long) x 16" (wide) = 2,192 square inches of rubber surface area (ignoring lugs)
144" (long) x 15" (wide) = 2,160 square inches of rubber surface area (ignoring lugs)

Difference in surface area is 32 square inches in favor of the 137". Divide this by 16" (width) and you may as well "theoretically" add two more inches to the 137 when comparing it to the assault. You aren't really riding a 139" sled because the surface area isn't transferred to the length but actually to the width, but transfer is heavily based upon surface area of the track on the snow (and of course suspension). Add lug height and do some more math and you will find that aside from the flickability of the assault, transfer and track surface areas are very similar, even though the assault tracks are "7 inches" longer then the 137". Also, add the S36 and I've heard from the Earl that they are very similar in flickability.

At the end of the day, what does it really matter, as long as you enjoy what you ride, but its good to talk about. I have never parked my "edit for bad language" on an assualt or rmk yet. I will eventually. I'm pretty brand loyal but I'm not ignorant and would def give the throttle a squeeze on one if presented the opportunity.

Mattyboy--

Thanks for the response on the S36! Sounds like an awesome upgrade. I ride a 2011 Backcountry 800 ETEC and am leaning heavy towards a S36 front end as a summer project. Couple more questions if you don't mind. Are you running your sway bar connected all the time? On trail, off trail do you disconnect or run without? Also if you run without it or disconnected did you adjust front shock pressures(stiffen them up) to do so? I've been thinking of disconnecting this weekend to try it out and I've been reading that when disconnected the front shocks should be run at a stiffer setting. Just looking for your thoughts from experience off trailing a BC. Thanks again.

s36 is just a band aid. it helps but its still not as easy as some of the other sleds out there to sidehill and carve. but i'm starting to be anti doo all together, at least in the mountain segment. still the best trail sleds hands down.

I'm assuming that the S36 kit you guys speak of just narrows the ski stance to 36 inches? Correct?

Boy, that is about the dumbest thing you've ever said. I love it how some of you keyboard jockeys know all about something you've never even tried. How much seat time do you have with the S-36? Forget it, I already know the answer, none. The S-36 is the best money you can spend on your sled right now, IMO. It radically changes how the sled feels and turns over. In fact standing on your RMK in front of the cabin I'm able to turn your sled just as easy as mine. You would be pretty hard press to find anyone on here who doesn't like it. Go read the mountain threads about it. If your so anti-doo then maybe you should go over to Poo Poo talk, or Arctic Crap!!!

It skinny's the stance as well as slightly raise the front end. Here's a thought, ride what you like and what you feel comfortable on, not what someone else tells you to ride or STOP trying to be like someone else. All the manufactures (expect Yamaha :)) make very capable quality sleds. This whole my brand is better than your brand is BS. I'm brand loyal and prefer skidoo but I also think Polaris and Arctic Crap make quality sleds as well. But my money most likely will stay with the cranky frenchmen in the near future.

And before some of you jockeys flip out, this is just my opinion. If you don't like it tough "edit for bad language"!!
I hate it when you get into the van and there's no candy!

I just beat my own personal record for most consecutive days alive!

I just put some super glue into a non-stick pan. Let's see who's lying now!

I don't consider them one night stands, I prefer to call them audtions!

Opinions are like orgasims, mines most important and I don't really care if you have one!

I also have a one tracked mind (lol)
Yup I think it's funny because I used to take my 2002 Summit the same places all the new sleds I ride can get too, Just a little easy with the new stuff no challenge anymore. As far as 121's go, Why did Skidoo have a factory kit to lengthen them for Hillcross if it wasn't needed? Kudos to all who love there Doos

Well said!!!!!!! The s 36 was the best aftermarket upgrade I have ever bought for a sled. The package was on back order for 4 months for a reason .

WHA?! Tim, you didn't like the S36 kit on the other mtn sleds you have owned? Which mtn sleds of yours didn't you like how it responded on? I'll buy your S36 kit off of you if you don't like it.

tim, 155 is still longer than i feel i need in New Hampshire, but the carving ability is something i would love to test. 137, maybe 144 would be the biggest i need... i love my renegade and with the deeper lugs i get it to go most places i should go, and a lot i shouldnt. i do want to narrow the front this summer to at least the summit front.
