Unless you take the the trail to Loring you'll run into 8-10 miles of crap. Enough snow though.

Here now. Rode to the north yesterday. Once you are on Trout Lake, the trails are alright, and the further north you go, the better they get. The ride from North Bay to the lake was bad. There is snow, but the trails need grooming. Just getting through it is exhausting, and then you have to do it again on the way back.
Pray that they get some more snow before you come up.

Just got back from RAP on tuesday round trip from Port Sydney. Some of the roughest trails were DeerHurst ,Mattawa, and bad wash outs in Haliburton!Mattawa was the WORST!!!!! The best was Missing Link Club past Mattawa to Pettawawa and onto Barrys Bay and to Whitney!

I live in the Mattawa area and will agree the trails here suck and have for the last 2 years. I talked to the club president today he blames it on the fact they have a crappy old groomer and only 1 groomer operater and he's pretty green. Any comments on what can be done? Getting tired of wasting $200 a year and can't even go for a good run in my own back yard.

Yes the traffic has been insane up here for the last few weeks. Maybe it's time to have the Government take over the trail and pay people to groom the trails... It's insane the trails are unridable on the weekend. If I had a clue as to how to operate a groomer and if I had the time I'd love to volunteer. Unfortunately I'm gone for half the month and the rest of the month is spent with my 3 little ones. I would have thought there would be more retired bush guys interested in grooming but I guess not. Hopefully we get a new grooming machine next year and they can spend more time grooming rather than fixing...

ice is unreliable, take the bridge in Mattawa.

cross the bridge and take a right onto Mattawan Street between the two building accross from the post office - then left on pine street- get gas and continue on pine street and re-connect with the trail.

stayed at the Clarion in NB this weekend. First 30k heading north were pretty brutal, and from NB to Trout lake were crazy. Actually passed the groomer and 2 hrs later you couldn't even tell they had been there. Not that they aren't trying, but with that volume of traffic, low snow and mild conditions, it was just impossible to get a good trail until you got out of the immediate are. 300 trails were quite good.

Glad to finally get some sledding in, but my back is paying for it. Not sure I'd base out of NB again due to that. Again, no fault of the clubs, they were trying, but you can't get good trails under those conditions.

It's hasn't been the grooming practices, it's the volume of traffic, when hundreds of sleds are riding the same trail it's bound to get beat. Our volunteer operater puts in over 40 hrs per week.

Fair enough on the family and work situation, but please think twice about critiquing those who volunteer to maintain trails in the future.
