I saw on a few posts that people were complaining about making a mess when changing their oil so I took a few pics of what I use. It's just a rubber hose that you can get from the hardware store or Home Depot. It works great, you can push the house up tight to the bottom of the pan and your torx bit will fit right through the middle of it. The only mess is from the oil that gets on your hand and tools. It works pretty good.

I measured my hole, and it's 1 3/16" dameter. A 1" ID rubber hose would be about 1 1/4" OD. Thanks for posting.

If you have a larger dia. hose laying around just slit it down the the side and fold it over itself(making the o.d. smaller) and slide it up there and it'll expand to fit nice and tight. B)

Great idea. Why didn't I think of that. All I need now is some snow to give me a reason to change the oil.

Thanks!

Really big tube, that you can fit the whole sled inside! This is my first Doo, and I'm curious why there is no drain plug on the chain case?

Nice idea with the hose. I don't have a problem with messy oil changes but most do. What I do is put a couple blocks under my skis so the front of the sled is higher than the back. This gives me more room to get at the drain plug and lets the oil come straight down into the pan instead of hitting the belly pan and going all over.

Material is too thin for a plug and DOO wanted to remove every ounce of 'unnecessary' material to reduce cost weight.

Has anyone else NOT had good luck with this "hose trick"???

I am really crazy about keeping things neat and clean so I did exactly the hose trick and still had some oil flood the belly/bulkhead. Took me forever to clean it all out, besides being a neat freak, I want to keep the belly clean so as to know if there is any oil in it, it's leaking from somewhere - NOT residue from an oil change.

The best I can figure is that the hose does not fit tightly enough against the bottom of the engine, and when I loosened the plug some of it sprayed or flowed over the top of the hose before I got the plug all the way out?

Maybe I missed something, but it sounded like a great idea, just didnt work very good for me.

A milk crate under each ski and adjustable track lift stand on the rear to get the sled higher. Stick a little line level to the belly with tape and adjust the track stand until the drain hole is level. Remove plug and slide an empty 10 liter windshield washer jug under the drain hole straight shot into the jug while draining pull the oil filter more oil will drain out after that on to the chain case loosen all bolts so that you can kind of tip the bottom of the chain case cover outwards a bit. Stick the same jug under chassis indent below the case and drain away. The 10 liter windsheild washer jug holds 2 oil changes and 3 chaincase changes and doesn't leak.
