In the process of going through a 05 Rev 600...when I removed the carb boots I noticed that one of the philips head screws that holds the reed on was missing. Not sure if a previous owner installed it without the screw...my question is, if the screw loosened and fell out would it have been retained by the indentations in the cylinder or would it have been sucked in...I'm worried that it may have been trapped and in the process of pulling the assembly I may have dropped it in the case. I don't really want to pull the motor apart for nothing but it would also suck to blow my motor when I start it if it did in fact fall in. Also, where is the cheapest place to get carb boots? Thanks

I changed my stock reeds over to boyesen this fall. When i removed the stock reeds i flipped them over and the end screw just fell out !!! I have no idea why it stayed in for the last 2,000 miles. I checked with another screw and sure enough it was stripped right from the factory.I lucked out....could easly have rolled into the motor. I would check to see if it is stripped out...if it is chances are that screw fell out at some point.Guess you have a tuff call at this point...magnet,shop vac and visual check. Replace with boyesen reed cages....made out of aluminum, never worrie about ripped carb boots again. Good luck....

Amen!!!! I found the screw...I thought I heard it drop but wasn't sure when i pulled the cage out of the cylinder...I ended up finding it in the bulkhead under the motor. Screw hole was totally stripped out so the screw had fallen out and was retained.. I guess that answers the question..they must not be able to get sucked into the motor if they come out.
