I've seen that one before - it's a good one. Slab avalanches are scary, a lot of snow all moving at the same time, he's lucky he was pointed down hill when it let go.
Thing is I bet 99.9% of us would have hit that same slope, that doesn't look like new snow. The only contributing factors I can see from the video are evidence of wind and southern exposure and the slope angle. There was obviously a weak under layer.
I've seen several of those exact same conditions let go before, wind blown/loaded slopes, I'll have to catalog that memory in the olé gray matter for future reference.
