I've heard of people using an old propane cylinder (small ones) and a length of pipe going through it with a bunch of holes drilled in it.. Kinda like a mini glasspack.. I just cut down an old Piper Seminole muffler for my Kohler engine, same sort of deal.

1, Cut both of the end caps off of the original muffler, remove the guts, weld the end caps back on.
2, Drill 3-5 15/16th" holes 1/2 way into the bottom of the original muffler. Weld a 1" strip of 3/16th" metal across the holes. 1985 Formula Plus Recall style.

I made 2 for my 9500 using metal conduit with holed drilled into it, made a piece that slipped onto stock turndowns and welded it to conduit. a large washer on each end and exhaust pipe for outside, packed with muffler packing and welded it together. Not sure how it will perform but sounds darn mean running on stand!
