One idea for a family/kids day trip would be the Snow Road/Sharbot Lake area. The trails up there are smaller, lower speed trails through the woods and deer yards and there's a trail right to Wheeler's pancake house for a lunch stop, which is always popular with the kids and can handle large groups (lots of sled parking too). My dad and I wanted to take my son up there for a ride this past season but the weather didn't cooperate. My son loves sledding and he'll be 3 by next season, so he'll be good for a few day trips (he did one with us already back in March on our last ride of the season).

When the little man isn't with us, we're good for long haul day trips (e.g. 200+ km). We did 450 km one day in 2010, though that was a bit much!

Scrimmer: We'll definitely have to meet up for a ride this coming season. :righton

I would love to make it up there for a ride, there are a tonne of us down here but 90% of our riding is on the lake. There really arent any good trails close to us unless we jump across the border.

The closest thing to a trail around here is alittle bit of bush between farmers fields, lol.

We could look at booking a resort / hotel and make it available to families too! Doo a full day ride, then tell lies in the evening!

I like this idea. My wife and I don't get too many riding weekends away together. Also, the more pops in the evening the better the lies and stories get!!!!

I'm game as well,

I mentioned to some guys last season, but Ganaraska forest has to be one of the best riding area around, and they always have more snow then some areas around it. Tons of curves, hills, rollers, great places to eat on rice lake, and of course a few pulls down the lake to see who is the fastest is always unnecessary but necessary at the same time. Best of all they actually groom their trails ALL the time, unlike some other areas.

as you can see by the red lines you can spend all day in the forest or take the main trails in and out and grab lunch and be home for dinner.

Gan Forest is great for local riding, and as for the stay/play/lie at night, Bancroft is terrific, though due to the conditions of the trail to the Bancroft Motor Inn, actually prefer the Best Western!

Other ideas that could/would work, Calabogie is a fun area, once they get to grooming, as is Pembroke, with lots of places to stay, as is Barry's Bay (Spectacle Lake Lodge, Fortune's Madawaska Inn, Ashgrove Inn) and all areas offer easy loops for day rides, plus not everyone has to stay in the same locale, can always meet up on trail for the ride, and then at one of the hotels/Inns for pop and lies!

Another thing we could work on, is a get together during the off season, like at the Toronto International Snowmobile and Powersports show to bounce more ideas and/or to get the bookings rolling. Can also approach some resorts and if we have an area decided early enough, they may offer discounts for our group.

yes of course, looks good, but its cold on the lake, hard to tuck behind it! Might toss the stock X one back on next year.

Ya the Gan ride is only a day trip. I normally stay over at the cottage (macteir)or trailer from my house for the day. But I'm interested in something different, was trying to make it Calabogie last year from Sharbot lake but trails sucked.

Funny enough all the little trail from Harrowsmith down to Napanee where actually fun, 9a etc...no one on them, groomer was packing, they don't seem to groom much in that area.
