I just spent 3 days at Steamboat Lake Outfitters (SLO) and they were amazing. Not really sure about their rental/guide program since I have my own sled, but the terrain in the area is fantastic. The snow was deep and never stopped coming. And the lodge and tavern there was great. I would definately head up there if you get a chance.

I would have to agree with ColoradoDoo, I'm 30 min from Steamboat, Steamboat Lake Outfitters is a good time and good riding. Not sure how much they let you leave the trail if they provide the sleds and guides.

How deep was the snow around SLO? I am planning a trip in Feb with a group of guys. I might fly out mid Feb if they have snow.

The snow can be pretty good up there in north Routt. It won't be as deep as Rabbit Ears Pass or Buffalo Pass, but still pretty darn good, especially if they take you up to higher elevations, not sure about the extent of the trail system on the east side of the highway. On the west side, you could go forever. I'd take Ron up on his offer if you have a small group or are riding solo. Buff has the goods if all you want is powder.

I rode the cat track from buff to rabbit ears yesterday. stake at buff was just under 4 ft. snow is like concrete. you couldn't pay me enough to ride off the cat track. every third track I saw off trail, someone hit a rock. its gonna take a lot more snow for me to ride again
