I want a new sled. But I can't. Like many many other people on this site no doubt. I love my sled, big power, BIG traction, very reliable, (except for the darn recoil) just a fun, fun sled. But it's a killer. I am 30 years old and I have the knees of a 60 year old. Even before this whole seat wedge, rev seat, etc idea came up, I was always sitting crammed up as close to the handle bars as I could, leaning forward while stand-up riding, I just felt like I was too far back on the sled. I rode a rev and it felt right, so I parked a rev next to my sled and started comparing what EXACTLY was different, and it was very obvious, and very simple. There are 2 major differences as far as I can tell: 1) The bars are farther forward and higher. 2) The seat is higher and farther forward. So my mission became how to sit higher and farther forward. For now I will concentrate on the seat, and later the bars. I was going to do a seat wedge, but I just never quite liked that. I mocked up a wedge, and did the "parked test drive". Hated it. Picture your 2 legs as an upside down "V", the seat is pretty wide, and as you move that wide seat up, it cramms the seat up and trys to pry my legs apart. Wasn't comfortable at all. So I started trolling the classifieds for a CHEAP rev seat, and a zx seat to chop up. Didn't want to wreck my perfect old seat. Here's what I got so far. Old seat:

I found a zx seat in the classifieds for $30 with a tear in it, perfect for this project. Total cost so far: $30. Cut it in half.

Found this all black rev seat for $60, total cost now $90. This is just sitting in place. There are basically 2 places that it doesn't line up, the front where it wings up instead of tucking under the plastic, and the sides up front. Also the bolt holes don't line up with the old studs, I guess I'll have to drill and nut and bolt it, no biggy.

Rev seat stripped and set in place. You can see the "wing" is still there up front.

Rev seat frame trimmed. It's pretty cool how closely to the zx seat frame it sits, looks very easy to rivet together, just a little flexing needed.

You need to take the Rev seat apart so you can attach it to the ZX frame. Then cut them to your liking.

Trimmed the foam with a big pair of shears, it will form down and lay flat on the frame when I put the cover back on. I will also add some thin foam to the sides to fill in that gap.

I am going to make aluminum filler pieces for the back and the backs of the sides instead of putting on the plastic pointy crap that revs have on the back, I hate that. I also have an led brakelight that will look nice. I like the stubbed off look on the back without the "pointer", I know a lot of other people don't though. Oh well. I'll keep you posted on the updates as this comes together.

Thanks for the links, I have already read everything I could find on the seat conversions. I'm the type of guy that researches for hours and hours before doing anything.

As far as the bars go: here is what I have found so far. Simply rotating the bars forward on the riser DOESN'T WORK. It screws the entire geometry of the steering up, and makes it very hard to steer, tiring you out, and thus doing the opposite of what I am going for here, riding long and fast WITHOUT fatigue! So, the way I see it, I am going to try and rotate the entire steering post forward. Not going to be easy. 1) The airbox is molded around the steering post, so if you move the post, the airbox needs to be cut up and redone with the slot in a differant spot. 2) The area around the steering post may need some tweaking. 3) Will the point that the steering post attaches to down in the bellypan be at a funky angle? I don't know, will need to look into it. Here's the bars I have, they are fly bars and grips. I love them, just need to move 'em up!
