wanted to make a thread with all kinds of good ideas and different options for doing just about anything sled/sledding related. if you have any add them.

tow ropes are big and bulky and super heavy when they get wet. instead i carry 15 foot of ractchet strap with the ratchet and hooks removed. rolls up super small and weighs next to nothing.

pin on compass pinned to the top side of your forearm on your jacket works awesome and you dont have to dig for it. been using it for 3 years and works perfect everytime. as you come to a stop at trail intersections a quick look at your arm and you know your direction.

i always carry a flash light, found a great option... it is a head lamp caled cyclops and sells for 10 bucks. they are led and water proof and shock proof. remove the headband strap and thro the light in your jacket pocket or pack. take up about as much space as a butterscotch and provides more light than a mini-mag.

if you carry extra oil on your sled or in a backpack and worry about the plastic container busting open (makes a huge mess in a tunnel bag) try this. get an aluminum fule bottle like the MSR or similar from rel or any outdoor store. they are crush proof light weight and basically bomb proof and actually more compact.

a tool that i always have in my pocket and carry one in my pack is a swisstech tool with pliers and 4 screwdrivers and is just a bit bigger than a quarter....i have used it on countless occations when sledding.

Leave the band on the Cyclops/headlight. Doesn't really take up any more room & leaves you able to work with both hands if need be.............

Use a good HD shoe string to remove exhaust springs. It's easy to thread through and get a reach into hard to get at springs.

The XP is the most fun sled ever made - but I like my XR more.

I don't wear a watch so here is what I did. My daughter had a band break off her watch. I took the body of the watch and put a little balck RTV under the body and stuck it on my dash. The watch is wound by movement. Has been on there two years and remains accurate.

Don't have a clutch tool to hold the primary still to torque it? Feed a piece of nylon rope through the vent hole on the clutch and tie off the other end to the frame in the foot well. Torque away. Reverse rope for removal. I used this method a few times, since then I have purchased the proper tools from Ian.

Rev knee pads look a little shabby. Buy some Kiwi black liquid shoe wax and give em a coat or two.

Trailer rims rusting up? Slap a thin to moderate coat of wheel bearing grease to them. End of season wash it off. My rims are in great shape. They throw salt around here more than the Morton salt lady.

Last one for now. Stuck/frozen jacket zippers? Before you go out rub both sides good with a candle.

I always carry zip ties, some sort of wire, and 8+10 mm wrench/socket.

The wire came in super hands when I lost the clip for my chain adjuster bolt! That would have ruined a day easy!
