OK, OK, I ahve been talking about it for a while, and havnt got any pics trally to speak of, but here it is, the Official Frankensled Thread. I am starting with a 96 Formula SLS, Snow checke her in 95. Just couldnt get rid of the girl, and cant afford a REV, so, I'll do the next best thing, Update the S with Newer tech.

Here is what I started with. 121" x1.5" track from factory, a year ago I upped it to a 136" x 1.25" But the 1.25 sucked. The 500cc Rotax met it's demise via improper storage and puking a rof bearing. I picked up a 583 from a Touring off Ebay for $300. Ported it with RaceLogics Sport Port kit. I will have a writeup of that too in the future. I did up the Lexan hood a couple years ago as well. Here is how she sat Feb 2007

My intentions are to mate a Rev seat, 151" x 2" track to the S-2000 front end. Due to very generous souls here on Dootalk, and on Ebay, Snowest, I have sourced pretty much all my parts I will need. With a couple form the Doo Dealer. I will update prices and Fellow Dootalk members when I remember them LOL. I cleaned out my PM box a while ago and forgot who all I got parts off off. If you sold me something and dont see your name, let me know.

03.5 144" Rev Skid Dootalk
ZX Gas Tank Ebay
ZX Console & panels Dootalk
ZX Seat Snowwest
ZX rear cooler Ebay
ZX front cooler Dootalk
HPG front shocks Dootalk (iansmxz)
ZX 700 Pipe Dootalk (iansmxz)

So, I started off by stripping the sled when the snow was gone and started to plan the build. Then, when all the parts were gathered for the seat, I proceeded to mate the Rev seat to the XZ seat base. See, the ZX seat wraps up arounf the gas filler neck, similar to how the Rev does. So, its a logical choice to use ZX parts to mate the Rev seat. There are a few other threads here about converting the seatr, so I wont go into to much detail, but basically, I cut the back of the ZX seat frame off and mated it to the Rev seat base. I cut a little off the Rev seat frame front so the foam and vinyl will wrap around the ZX front. Now, I am not using any extra vinyl to fill in the missing tank sections. I am acctually using formed Aluminum panels that will be ground and Powdercoated in a Tropical Orange candy. The local Fabric person wanted way to much to stich in panels, and didnt have the Orange to match the back of the stock Doo cover.

Here is the seat bases mated together. I used a Professional grade Plastic Epoxy made for the Automotive repair industry called Fusor 142. Its a 2 part epoxy, you can see the applicator gun on the running board. Wjhen used with the Fusor Adhesion promoter, it makes a sure bond that is just as strong, if not stronger than the parent materials. I also put in some .100" Carbon fiber panels under the seat area to streingthen it, and make a Storage compartment for the Avelance shovel and Misc items. See, the Rev seat is made to use the Gas tank as support for your But, but with a ZX style tank, there is nothing under the but part of the seat fro support.

Can't wait to see some more pics. I have a 96 Formula SLS that is my water sled. The 500 works great but I like to drop a 670 in it. I have been thinking of a 583 but not sure yet. I am having a hard time finding a 670 but I found a 95 Formula Z for cheap.

Tell me about it, in 2001, I took first in the 500cc stock, and 600cc stock classes at the grass drags. Not a thionk done to my SLS, cept the 1.5" track then. The first year of the 500 was awesome for HP/cc ratio. I raced a few 500 Dlx sleds, all set up the same and I'd kill them every time. And ya, my 96 has seen its fair share of water skipping. 6 summers straight. Sunk once or twice LMAO

Better save some of that money for a trip up McBride. Have to do a trip again this winter, last year was a blast. I'll save a spot for you this year. We had a house to ourself for next to nothing. Tonnes and tonnes of open spaces.
