Hi all. Looks like the previous fishing thread has made it's way into the abyss so I thought I'd start another one for everyone to share their catches and trade tips and tricks if they'd like.

Here in Ontario, walleye and pike seasons opened in Lake Ontario on Saturday. My BIL and I headed down to the shore for a few hours Saturday evening and we did very well. We each caught three walleyes in under 2 hours. My three all beat my previous PB. Two of my BIL's catches beat his previous PB as well. The funniest thing about it is I was using a spinner and he was using a large Rapala HJ, yet I caught the three biggest fish. :P

Fish catches were as follows (with pics following in order below):

Me: 8 lb 4 oz, 28"
BIL: 5 lb 4 oz, 26"
BIL: 6 lb 9 oz, 26-1/2"
Me: 9 lb 1 oz, 27"
Me: 7 lb 10 oz, 27-1/2"
BIL: 4 lb 10 oz, 25"

We gave it another try last night despite the cold front rolling in. The previous night I landed the 8-4 by myself on the second cast (BIL wasn't there yet). Last night I was the first one there again and on my 5th cast I landed my PB smallmouth on the same spinner I caught the big 'eyes on the night before. Unfortunately bass are not in season so after a quick pic of it laying in the net it went safely back into the lake (not that I keep them anyways). It may or may not have weighed 5 lb 11 oz... ;)

My FIL arrived shortly after. He had no luck all night and donated a stickbait to the snag gods.

My BIL wasn't going to head down but when I sent him the pic of the smallie his girlfriend told him he needed to go. Not because of the bass (we don't target them out of season) but because it looked like the bite was still on. When he arrived he caught this 6 lb 4 oz (26-1/2") 'eye on his third cast.

My BIL had one other on shortly afterward but it shook the hooks. Other than that though the bite shut right down. It was only about 35 degrees on the drive home. Took a while to warm up my fingers when I got back to the house!

Can't wait to get back down there and try again. :righton

Forgot to mention, we just fish catch and release for these walleyes. Gotta keep the main breeders in the lake! :)

No lies in my reports above. We weigh and measure them so we can keep track from year to year. ;)

Oh, I know that and I've heard it before.

And if I hadn't been the one catching those fish the last few nights I might not have believed my reports. That's why I always have a phone or camera on hand to take pics! ;)

The engineer in me makes me get the facts as they are. I've known a few fish-story tellers over the years and it always bothered me. Just tell it as it is. :righton

I enjoy sharing pics of my catches, both big and small.

Here's a pic of the last fish I caught in that spot last September. There's a little difference in size so far this spring!

You'd have enjoyed the action Saturday night. Best night of walleye fishing I've ever had. :righton

Little lady just asked me if we can go tonight. She said we should go check if there are any fish. That's my girl!

Too bad it's a school night and we can't stay out while the bite is good. If the weather is decent I might take her to a different spot and try for bullheads instead. We'll see.

Great fish and great report. I am a die hard as well always looking for that one fish. Haven't been out as much as normal this year but did manage a few trips to Detroit River early spring, Lake Huron and some St Clair river this year. Detroit did not have the run that is typical so I didn't miss out on many hawgs I hear. They are thinking that the 2003 class has died off from what I have been reading. But it looks like you have a nice class of fish your way, I am going to have to do some research on your area. Will be starting the regular trips to Lake O shortly for the salmon. Our first stop on Lake O will be St Catherine's area then head over to bluffers, can't wait for some big king action. Lake Huron wasn't nice to us again this spring for kings as usual :(

Those are some nice 'eyes too. Healthy like the ones we've been catching.

I'm lucky to have a section of public land for shore fishing just a few minutes' drive from my house. There's a main creek outflow and a nice flat right beside it. The water is really high this year but it seems to be working. Most of our hits have been within 10'-20' of shore as they follow the baits in. No need for a boat this time of year! :D

Apparently Bay of Quinte was producing this weekend too.

From the spot where I've been fishing the smallest walleye I've caught was 3-0. Everything else has been 4-3 and up. Lots of breeders like to hang out at that creek. :righton

If you ever come down this way (Kingston area) let me know. Lots of great fishing around here and some monster smallies here in Lake O. We also get the kings running in the creeks here in the fall. Used to fish for them a lot when I was a kid!

Canadian Tire had Shimano Sonora 2500FB spinning reels on clearance tonight. Somehow one followed me home after I made a donation at the register.

The only fishing I'd care to do is with a professional like Michelle Clavette.  She can really real them in.

I need 2 180mm and 2 141mm bogey wheels in all black.  Got any?  http://www.dootalk.c.../#entry13970153

If I can't be sledding then I want to go fishing. It tides me over until the snow flies again. ;)
