Just checking to see how many people have lost a coil in the 900 ACE I lost 2 so far this season in my SWT  and only have 4000km on the machine. Both times they went, it was when the machine was warming up after about 5 min or less started cutting out on 2 cylinders and then engine light would come on with 4 short beeps. Sounds like a diesel engine when it does this.

Have also talked to a few fellers around town and also said that they were losing coils like spark plugs.

anyone know why this engine is doing this?

I'm curious about this too. I haven't lost a coil yet on my '17 900 SWT but I'd like to know if I should buy a couple to carry with me.

What do they cost?

I bought two spares to keep in my parts inventory.  Haven't needed yet.

Was it always the center coil when you lost one?  General line of thought seems to be the additional heat of the 900 is doing them in.  I expect with the extra ventilation I put in mine, I should never have a problem.

I have not had any issues but decided to order a spare to carry a few months ago after reading posts about guys who did. If you pull the hood, looks like you could change it on the trail.

Dealer told me it was a different part number than what I ordered so not to be surprised to see a different p/n when it came in.

Maybe they have redesigned and improved it?

I haven't any problems with the coils either nor did i hear of anyone else......piston ring lip cracking is fairly common around here with the 900`s though.

Lost the center coil with about 300 miles on.

Made me wish for the old flip hoods.

Darn plastic is a little brittle in the cold.

I would only carry one and make sure you have the tools to change it. Having 2 would be like having 2 spare tires. Ever seen 2 flats at once..........no

I was SWTfan but didn't have password so had to re-up.

Two is one, one is none.  If you ever had 2 flats you would have 2 spares.  But things are different in the land of cell phones you dont have to worry about if you can hit the satellite with the phone from the valley, then camp out for a couple days waiting on help to get home, then a week or 2 for parts to be flown in.

I often carry two spares when I travel the Labrador hwy, and have seen several people who have been stranded on the hwy after getting a second flat.

Not sure what one went dealer never said.

But both times I lost them was when warming up the machine so I don't think heat is playing a part in mine, both times was when it was a cold/cooler morning.

even with the coil gone the machine will not leave you stranded, it will start normally run fairly normal, and just a little harder on gas and not as much power.
