I bought a new to me 2013 Summit 800 XM ETEC recently and obviously didn't look it over well enough because once I got it home and popped the hood off I found this:
Any idea what it is? It's obviously not stock considering the booger-weld job they did on the pipe. Thanks!
So... was there a turbo on here at one point or is this just a device to watch AFR? Seems pointless to watch AFR without it feeding back into some type of EFI controller. Pardon my lack of knowledge on the subject... this is my first mountain sled. I've been a flatlander for the last 20 years. :wink_old:
Yikes, Most people don't install AFR bungs and sensors into stock sleds, leads you to believe the sled was modified at one point like a turbo? hope your motor didn't see boost.

yeah, me too... I had a few CELs that cleared right away on my last trip to Wyoming. I also had trouble maintaining RPM but the clutch is probably beat and due for a rebuild if it had a turbo. I got it with 1,369 miles on it, there's around 1,600 on it now.
I've still got the stock EGT sensor in the pipe further towards the bend and then also the stock EGT sensor in the muffler. There's a few other suspect wires hanging around in the engine area. That turbo looks sweet!
here is the 15'. not sure what this sensor does but it looks like someone added one to yours. i coulda swore i saw that someone was able to reflash the stock gauges display EGT. i have seen some people add a separate gauge to display it tho.
heres what I wanna know... why would they cut the wires off so close to the sensor? leaving no wire for possible future tie ins??? maybe thats why I suppose.. basically making that sensor a plug for that threadolet that was welded on.
IMO: that sensor was just used as a plug for an O2 sensor /AFR gauge that was used "close to stock." Any decent turbo install puts the O2 sensor DOWNstream from the turbo. I'd say: 1: someone was extra curious what kind of AFRs they were getting, or 2: they had a PCV on there, and needed an afr for tuning. I highly doubt there was a turbo on there.
My sled definitely has 2 stock EGT sensors (one in the pipe, one in the muffler) still in place plus the mystery sensor that isn't hooked up to anything. If you look in the upper right corner of the parts fiche for the exhaust on the 2013 is shows a "double thermocouple module" in a separate window. It's only on the Summits and the Renegade Backcountry apparently.

Does anyone think it will cause an issue to just leave it alone or should I look for a different pipe? If the pipe is fine I may try to find a better way to plug that hole...
Was the pipe original to the sled?? May be a pipe from another sled that was damaged. Could have a parts special there. Take parts from 3 sleds, build and sell 2 of them, then sell parts that are left over. Haydays is full of them.
That is my guess too. I would leave it the way it is with some copper anti-seize or get a set of plugs from Koso. Then weld a new bung to the inside bend in a 10-11 o'clock position. Helps to keep a two stroke live longer.
Impressed with all the liquid "tools" going on there too Joe!! :buddies:
