Trying to find the answer to a couple weak links in our setup... What's everybody using for chains in their 1200's? Thanks.

Can a belt drive handle the power. Or gears made up to use a motorcycle chain

yes, the gears/chain I have made are unbreakable

but I recommend going to hyvo, Martin sells them to go with the rest of his kit

they seem to work fine up to around 300-400 hp PM me and I can help you find diferant hyvo setup

the dr2 530 chain and gears I make are custom for every sled and are not cheap

Thanks Chris I appreciate you taking the time to add some input. I need to find the solution to being unbreakable like that to withstand big power as well. Blew the chain through the bottom of the case on the sled's 5th pass at snow outlaws. I or my dad will send you a pm here or on Facebook.

What chain were you running?  I've crumpled a Proline rear suspension digging on ice using a gear matched no deflection hyvo setup.  No doubt Chris's setup will work, but wouldn't think it necessary for snow outlaws. What are you running for track drivers, aluminum?

I agree dirt and ice are much harder on the drive train

but I have seen track conditions where you spin like mad off the line and dig down to ice and hook making a big load on the system

for sure, the smaller track, 136" guys almost depend on that. lol

I was just curious if this was an actual hyvo failure after 5 passes or a linkbelt chain.

It was two link belt chains fastened together to fit avid rolled case, drivers are the skidoo race shop 2.52 pitch. Also know weneed to do some suspension work as we were lifting during launch riding it out.. Not sure if that also affected the failure,etc.. Thanks Jim

ok that makes the 530 gear combo a big problem

I done all the sizing on a standard chain case

so again I recommend hyvo

wahl bros will make any link hyvo chain you want

I have a 15 wide linkbelt with the AVID chaincase spinning a 162 with trail studs, but have never pushed over 400hp through it. I think that might be the limit of the 15w reliability with limited metal in the track. I'm assuming you had Robbie reinforce your drive shaft if you have his chaincase, if not, I would have that done as well. I've cracked them, even the "race shop" ones with 350ish hp.  Chris is right again, wahl bros will make whatever chain you need and use high quality stuff.

Does your chain setup retain reverse ?
If so where do you guess the breaking point to be hp wise ?
Thanks
