Well hello all, it's been awhile. I have recently purchased a sweet little Formula III built in 1996 and it's a nice reliable sled; however the previous owner had it serviced at the local small engine shop and they no nothing when it comes to suspension. This being why I was able to get a sweet deal on this vintage sled. I have acquired a lightly used SC-10 II suspension that I plan to install in this sled to replace the very tired C-7 setup. Being that the front suspension is equal length rods with 6.5" travel I was wondering if there was a way, lets say of installing longer shocks that would allow more suspension travel in the front and allow it to sit more level with the taller rear suspension.
This has probably been discussed before but being as it is more then likely an old topic I figured I would ask again.
She was likely built in 95 making it a 96 model year. Last year for the C7 I think. Are you up on all the good information here regarding the install of an SCII? Pretty easy but you want the CTC to be just right.
I think you can get away with a set of front shocks from a circa 2000 ZX chassis. Roughly 1.5 inches longer and no mods necessary. Someone here knows for sure. Good luck.
I recently performed an sc-111 swap into a '97 F111. I installed 14" front shocks, which were about 2" longer CTC. That brought the front up just enough to level out the track.. I know it's apples and oranges, but I hope this helps.
Running pretty good, someone changed the settings on the clutch awhile back before I got it, pretty sure it needs some tweaking, has a hard time to get past about 7400 RPM.
On the subject of the rear suspension, how critical is it to have the extra set of upper idlers in there? I can drill the new holes and install it but if it's not critical; well the less holes in my sled the better.
Oh, by the way, the front suspension is a set of shocks from Royal Distributing and the stock springs painted yellow. I ordered a set of Rod ends from ebay, and was able to tighten up the play in the skis by trimming the ski bushings and tightening up the ski bolts.
Nice looking sled Rob!...( I refuse to call you handsome..) LOL
